South East Hockey League Dispels Merger Rumors | ||
South East Hockey League Press ReleaseIn order to dispel recent rumors of a pending South East Hockey League / World Hockey Association 2 merger, the South East Hockey League issues the following statement:The SEHL would have no interest in a merger of any type with the WHA2 due to ideological differences of the two leagues, which include: The SEHLs philosophy of tightly controlled operating budgets. The SEHLs policy of developing younger players by strictly adhering to a two veteran rule. The SEHL is a league for younger players with ambitions to progress to a higher league. The SEHLs goal to have as much of each teams generated revenue stay with the team. As a result, the SEHL does not have a franchise fee as a requirement for membership in the league. The SEHL operates as a democracy. Each member team has one vote in regards to playing rules, salary considerations, number of veterans, admission of additional teams, and league policy in general. The South East Hockey League has passed the halfway mark of the 2003/2004 season. While all four of our current franchises are constantly striving to improve both on and off the ice, all four teams are already in the planning stage for the upcoming 2004/2005 season. The SEHL, as a league, continues its expansion planning with on-going discussions with a number of potential cities and ownership groups. The SEHL thanks our fans, our corporate partners, and our media friends for their support and send our best wishes to the WHA2 for a successful second half of the 2003/2004 hockey season.
