Miami Manatees Press Release

Miami The Manatees four-game winning streak came to end as they fell to the Lakeland Loggerheads by a score of 5-3 in Lakeland. Oak Hewer got the Manatees on the board at 2:49 in the first period, beating Tyler Murray over the right shoulder. Hewers goal was his fourth goal in two games. The Loggerheads answered back with a power-play from Joe Seroski at 15:44, and the teams went to the dressing rooms tied up after one.

The second period started off with the Loggerheads scoring three goals in quick succession in 1:33 to put them ahead 4-1. The game remained that score until Tom Perrys slap-shot on the power-play beat Murray cleanly.

The Manatees entered the third period down by two, and the rally was started when Darren Cain won a offensive zone face-off, and drew it back to J.F. Picard at the point. Picards wrist-shot made it through traffic past a screened Murray.

But on a uncharacteristic miscue in the defensive zone, Perry fanned on a pass to Liam McCarthy, leaving the puck in the slot. Lakelands Jim Callahan grabbed the puck and put it past Sean Weaver for the Loggerheads fifth goal of the game.

The loss for the Manatees ended their four-game winning streak. Weaver made 25 saves on 30 shots, and Murray turned aside 33 of 36 shots in only the 3rd win for the Loggerheads this season.

The Miami Manatees will face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2s inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.

Season Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825) or visit www.miamimanatees.com.
