Miami Manatees Press Release

Miami Manatees right wing Oak Hewer scored five points in a 6-3 win over the visiting Jacksonville Barracudas in front of 1,108 fans at the Miami Arena Saturday night.

The game entered the second period with the Barracudas having a one-goal lead from a Kyle Steenbergen goal. Just 27 seconds into the second period, Kevin Swider deflected Oak Hewers shot from the point past Randy Hevey, who was making his second professional start in net. The Barracudas retook the lead 1:16 seconds later when Jamie Millers wrist-shot from the right circle eluded Mark Gowan.

But Manatees right wing Oak Hewer took over the scoring for the Manatees in the last half of the second period. He scored a power-play goal at 4:40, and added his second goal of the game shortly after at 7:26. Hewers second goal was a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle that went off of Barracudas goaltender Mark Heveys mask and deflected into the goal. Hewers two goals sent the teams to the dressing room at the end of the second with the score in favor of the Manatees 3-2.

Jacksonvilles Mike Wirll tied the game up at 6:05 in the third period, and the game remained deadlocked until Ryan Kiley beat a defenseman to a loose puck in the Barracudas zone. Kileys backhand shot went over Heveys shoulder. That goal scored at 14:56, was Kileys second game-winning goal in as many nights.

With 3:46 left in the game, Hewer scored his third goal of the night which gave him his first hat-trick as a Manatee. Hewer finished up his five-point night when he assisted on Eric Perricones empty-net goal as time expired.

Mark Gowan earned his fourth straight win of the season, stopping 40 of 43 shots. Randy Hevey stopped 19 of 25 shots in the loss.

The Manatees head on the road for a three-game road trip, and return home on Jan 4th to take on the Barracudas.

The Miami Manatees will face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2s inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
