Miami Manatees Press Release

Miami The Miami Manatees extended their winning streak to 3 games in a row as they defeated the Loggerheads by a score of 2-1 in front of 1,625 fans at the Miami Arena.

The Manatees got on the scoreboard first in the game as Oak Hewer carried the puck behind the Lakeland net. His centering pass got through traffic and Eric Perricone was able to slam home the rebound of his initial shot at 12:20. The goal was Perricones 13th goal of the season.

The Loggerheads evened up the score in the second period at 17:07 on a power-play goal from Jungi Sakata, a former Japanese national team player playing in his 3rd professional North American hockey game. Sakatas goal was the only power-play of the game.

The game wasnt tied up for long when the third period started. Ryan Kiley scored his 10th goal of the season on a wrap-around goal, beating Carl Poissant in what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Manatees goaltender Mark Gowan played an exceptionally strong game in the nets, denying the Loggerheads on several point-blank one-time attempts. He made 29 saves on 30 shots. Poissant turned aside 27 of 29 shots in the loss.

With the win, the Manatees remain unbeaten in regulation time this season on home-ice. They play again Saturday night against the Jacksonville Barracudas at 7:05 pm at the Miami Arena.

The Miami Manatees will face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2s inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
