The Manatees kick off the United Way season in style | ||
Miami Manatees Press ReleaseMiami Manatees owner and WHA2 Co-Founder David Waronker and Head Coach Zac Boyer made quite an impression at Miami-Dade Countys United Way Kickoff Party on September 24th.The kick-off party is held every year to begin the Miami-Dade County Public Schools student fund-raising campaign for the United Way in style. Last year the Florida Marlins hosted the event, and the Manatees were invited to host the shindig this year. Waronker and Boyer acted as the Co-emcees and they delighted the crowd with their humorous back and forth joking and good natured ribbing of the generic script they were supposed to read from. Manahee, the Miami Manatees mascot, was introduced to the crowd, and laughter reigned as he bolted to the stage with his hands raised high in the air. During the breakfast, Manahee made the rounds to all 800+ attendees in the banquet hall. After breakfast was served, Waronker and Boyer continued on with the introduction of county school board members, who gave speeches highlighting the importance of the United Way and the help they provide to countless numbers of people in every community. Finishing on a fun note, Waronker and Boyer gave out prizes in a trivia contest, and Waronker seemed to have as much fun as the kids were having when he started to throw shirts into the crowd. But what really got the crowd pumped up was when Waronker made the first pledge of the 2003 United Way student campaign for $2500, and then invited every single person in attendance to come out to opening night on November 8th when the Manatees take on the Macon Trax. We are always looking for fun emcees to host our events and to get the kids excited for the upcoming campaign. Mr. Waronker and Boyer were definitely the right people for the job. United Way Senior Development Office Nicole Robinson-Gauthier said. The Manatees are very supportive of local charities in the South Florida area.
