Miami Manatees Press Release

MIAMI, Fla. - The Miami Manatees are proud to announce the sponsorship of the Kendall Ice Arenas travel hockey program. The travel hockey program will be renamed the Junior Manatees.

While the Miami Manatees will be skating against their WHA2 opponents in the Miami Arena, the Jr. Manatees will be skating against travel hockey teams from other local ice rinks around the Florida area. In addition, the Jr. Manatees will have the opportunity to play against teams from all over the country during regional tournaments.

Having the Manatees come on board now will be much better suited to getting our name out there to the community and to the other travel hockey programs. Kendalls Hockey Director Dustin Supa said.

This will let them know that we are working hard at Kendall to develop hockey players and put them into competitive and beneficial travel hockey programs.

After the Florida Amateur Hockey League (FAHL) seeding tournament on September 13th and 14th, the Jr. Manatees placed second in pool play, and will be competing in an A division with teams from Daytona, the Spacecoast area, Sunrise Ice Arena, Glacier Ice and Snow Arena, and the Jr. Panthers Select Team.

The Jr. Manatees will be taking to the ice wearing jerseys with the Manatees logo and colors, as well as being supplied with special Manatee travel bags. When the Jr. Manatees travel to an opponents rink, they will be proudly showing off Manatee warm-up suits and polo shirts.

The Jr. Manatees are a PeeWee team comprised of local youth hockey players under the age of 12 years old. Kendall Ice Arena also has plans to put together a Jr. Manatees Midget team comprised of youths 15 to 18 years old.

Any opportunity the Manatees have to encourage youth hockey in South Florida is something we have to take advantage of. We are very happy to be affiliated with the travel hockey efforts at the Kendall Ice Arena. Manatees General Manager Shawn Thorimbert said.

Though Kendalls team is the Jr. Manatees, we still will maintain an active role in developing youth hockey both on and off the ice in the South Florida area at all facilities.

The Jr. Manatees season has already begun, and they take to the ice next on October 18th and 19th at an ice rink to be determined.

The Miami Manatees will face off against the Lakeland Loggerheads, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Macon Trax, and a yet-to-be-named Central Alabama team in late October.

Season Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825) or visit them on the web at www.miamimanatees.com.
