Manatees Sign Goalie Mark Scally | ||
Miami Manatees Press ReleaseMIAMI, Fla. � Miami Manatees Head Coach Zac Boyer today announced the signing of Goaltender Mark Scally.Born in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, Scally played hockey for Penn State for four seasons from 1996 to 2000 and won two American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) championships in 1998 and 2000. In the 2000-2001 season, Scally was invited to the Pittsburgh Penguins training camp where he appeared in two NHL exhibition games before being sent to the ECHL Wheeling Nailers. In his first professional season, Scally played in 17 games, winning three games with a .859 save percentage. In addition, Scally played in one game in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Scally played in the UHL during the 2001-2002 season with the Asheville Smoke and appeared in 15 games. He finished with an overall record of five wins, six losses, and two ties with a .908 save percentage. �He is definitely a very experienced goaltender who just a few years ago was playing in some exhibition games in the Penguins system. He is just a very solid goaltender who brings stability to our goaltending situation.� Boyer said. In the 2002-2003 season, Scally returned to the ECHL to play for the Johnstown Chiefs. In 20 games, Scally won five games and tied three games with a .874 save percentage. �He is in amazing shape. He played in the East Coast League last year. I think it is an honor that he is going to come play for us. He is committed to coming to Miami to win a championship.� The Miami Manatees will face off against the Lakeland Loggerheads, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Macon Trax, and a yet-to-be-named Central Alabama team in late October.
