The Manatees may finish the season after all, just not in Miami.

After a Saturday conference call with owner and WHA2 Commissioner David Waronker, the remaining players agreed to finish out the season, playing only their seven road games and trying to make the playoffs. They plan to continue to live and practice in Miami, but not play there.

Waronker canceled the remaining contests in Miami Arena last week, using a clause allowing him to void his lease if the team averaged less than 1,500 in attendance through 20 games.

Al Harper, the incoming chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and a season-ticket holder, is still trying to put together an investor group and find a site to bring the team back to Miami next season. The Miami Arena is not an option, after the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority voted to sell it to a developer who intends to tear it down.
