Loggerheads Whip Manatees, 6-4 | ||
By JOHN BARKER Ledger Correspondent LAKELAND -- Crisp passing along with tough defense enabled the Lakeland Loggerheads to defeat Miami, 6-4, on Friday night at The Lakeland Center in WHA2 play before 1,300 fans. Chris Cerrella pointed the way for Lakeland with two goals. The victory marked the first two-goal win for the Loggerheads this season. Cerrella scored the game-winning goal at 13:27 of the third period when he skated in on Manatee goalie Sean Weaver and completely fooled him to score. Cerrella was named first star of the night for his efforts. The Manatees are now 1-3 against Lakeland in The Lakeland Center. Miami opened the scoring on a goal by Tom Kotsopoulos at 5:34 of the first period, but Lakeland came right back at 7:43 when Cerrella scored his first goal and the game was tied 1-1. Miami answered right back, scoring at 11:18 as Greg LeColst put the light on. But again the Loggerheads answered, as Curtis Sayler scored at 16:22 to make it 2-2 on a power play effort to end period one. Lakeland struck first in the second period as Joe Seroski scored at 9:21 on an unassisted goal, making it 3-2 Loggerheads. The Manatees came back with Darren Cain scoring and it was 3-3 at the end of period two. Lakeland stormed ahead in the third period on goals by Jeff Glowa at 12:39, assisted by Bobby Clouston and Cerrella, then Cerrella's game-winner and Sayler's second goal at 14:35, making it 6-3 Lakeland. Miami was unable to keep the pace, but Josh Liebenow scored one more goal 17:32. The Loggerheads will be home tonight for another game against Miami at 7:05 at The Lakeland Center.
