Chapter 5
I woke up to the smell of smoke, I looked around and saw that the car was on fire, and when I looked over to where Mom had sat I saw that she was gone. I hurried to get my seat belt off and tried to open the door of the car. I tried it and it didn�t budge, I looked and saw that it was locked. So I unlocked it and tried again but it still didn�t open. I thought quickly, I took off my coat and wrapped it around my hand and broke the window so I could get out that way. After I got most of the glass away from the window I crawled out and rolled out of the car down the hill away from the car. I stopped rolling and looked up at the car just in time to see it explode in a ball of flames. I just looked at the car not believing what I was seeing. Why did mom just leave me there? Was this staged that I would be in the car? I started to think about how nice she had been to me and thought it must have been a cover for what she was planning to do.
I tried to get up and get away from the area of the crash; I didn�t want to be there when people started to show up. If she really wanted me dead I�ll just let her go on thinking that. I stood up and immediately I had to sit back down because of the pain that shot up to my back from my knees. I took a deep breath and got up again trying to forget the pain that felt like there were knives sticking me over and over. I walked till I was a safe distance from the crash site where there was a small stream, and I took off my coat and waded in the water to clean up all my cuts that I just noticed. I wasn�t cut really badly just on my arm where I had a deep gash from my shoulder to just above my watch. I had to use my shirt to stop the bleeding and I put my coat back on and keep walking hoping I could find somewhere to sleep for the night.
I walked about an hour more till I found a cabin that had some lights on. I went to one of the windows that wasn�t high up and looked in. No one was there so I decided to go around to the front door. I walked around to the front door when I heard a snap of twigs. I hurried and hid in some bushes near the cabin. I watched to see what was coming over to the cabin. At first it looked like a deer, but then I got a better look and it looked like one of the aliens in my dream.
I heard a voice in my head! I looked around and thought it was the blue dear thingy that was standing close to where I was hiding. I slowly got up and steeped out of my hiding space. When I did the blue deer thingy started to change, I just stood there looking in shock, and I realized that when it was done changing it had changed into my friend Celeste.
"H-h-h-how did you do that? Who are you and what did you do to Celeste?!" I said trying to sound braver than I really was; the truth was I was scared. I didn�t know what was going on.
�I am Celeste, Heather.� The Celeste look-alike told me. Then she asked me. �What happened to you? You are pretty cut up, come inside I have a first aid kit in my cabin.� She started to walk inside of the cabin. I held back and then decided to follow her into the cabin. When I got in there I asked again.
�You still didn�t answer my question, who are you� she looked down, and then went to get the first aid kit. She pulled up a chair to the couch and she sat down. I sat on the couch and pulled up my sleeve on the army jacket I was wearing then I started to get the shirt off of my arm so she could look at it.
�I�ll tell you who I am if you tell me what happened to you.� She told me. She started to clean up the biggest cut I had. "Well, I guess it started when I got home form school, mom was home today when I got home and she had told me that both of us was going to go to her meetings that she goes to. I was very curious so I went and got my jacket and we left," I took a deep breath as she pored the peroxide on my deepest cut that I had, then I continued "I was busy looking out the window and listen to the music that mom let me put on, the next thing I knew, I heard the screech of tires and I saw a car comin' right at us, we hit and I hit my head hard on the dashboard. When I woke up the car was on fire so I broke a window and got out before it exploded. Then I walked out here in the forest, found the river and cleaned my self up and tried to stop the bleeding so I wouldn't bleed to death. Then found this place, and you." I paused for a second and then continued. �Now it�s your turn. Who and what are you. How did you know my name and how did you make yourself look like Celeste?�
"My name is Allaran; I'm an Andalite. I crashed here about 5 years ago. I wanted to learn more about this planet so I created a female morph, Celeste is a morph of mine, morphing is a technology that my race invented, it lets us blend in to any world." She explained. "So that's what an Andalite is, but why would my mom know about you?"
"Well, you know about her second voice, I guess its time you know what its about. Your mother is what we call a controller; she has a Yeerk in her head. The Yeerks are a race of body invaders, they craw into the brain through the ear and take over the host, from that time on the body is completely controlled by the Yeerk, the host can't do anything but watch what is going on around him or her. My race has been fighting the Yeerks for a long time, even before I was born, that is why I'm here, I was in a fight in orbit of this planet when my engines were shot and I lost control of my fighter, I crashed in the ocean and I have been living here since." She put a fresh bandage on my arm with the long cut on it.
"Okay that explains that, but what is a "Visser"?" I asked.
"A Visser is a higher-ranking Yeerk, the boss. Not the nicest guy in the world, the Visser here is Visser three, the Visser�s rank is a pretty high one, he only has two others over him. Then Council of Thirteen, they are the highest of all, but Visser Three is taking over the invasion now. Visser One was here but they needed her somewhere else so she disappeared, I believe that your mother�s Yeerk had to also disappear, and the car crash was her way of going away without a lot of people wondering where she had gone." She got up and went to the frig and poured kind of drink for me, then she walked back to where I was sitting and gave me the glass. It had orange juice in it.
"Here drink this, you need to get your strength back." She told me. I tuck the glass and drank it slowly, when I was done I asked her,
"But why bring me into the car if she knew it was goin' to crash?�
"I think it was because you knew too much. It was either make you one of them or kill you; they don't want any one to know there are here. They have the element of surprise and they want to keep it like that for now.� She paused and then continued.
"I have to go back to my real form, before the two hours are up, or I'm trapped in this morph." She told me. She started to demorph. When she was done she went to one of the back rooms and came back with some clean clothing. She handed me a clean pair of pj�s. I went to one of the back rooms and changed into them and came back out. My knees were still hurting and I had some trouble walking back there and then back out to the living room.
When I came back out we talked for a while before Allaran asked me a question.
She asked me. I thought about it.
"Yes I want to help. And I have a question, because I don't really know if you are male or female. Allaran don�t really sound like a female name, and I knew you as Celeste for so long.� I looked at Allaran with embarrassment.
then he decided to change the subject.
He told me. I went back to the room and sat on the soft bed, and fell right asleep.
