Chapter 3
Monday at school I tried to look for Celeste before school started, and when I couldn’t find her I hurried and went to my first class where Kitana was the student teacher in my class. Kitana was there and before the bell rang I tried to talk to her. “Kitana?” “Good morning Heather, how are you?” Kitana asked me cheerfully, I never understood how she was this much of a morning person. “I’m fine, I really need to talk to Celeste. Is she in school today?” I asked her in a rush. Kitana shook her head. “No, she isn’t feeling well and I told her to stay home today.” “Oh, is she okay?” “Just the touch of the flu, nothing that a days rest won’t help.” Kitana told me just as the bell rang, I hurried to my chair and tried to pay attention to the teacher, but I had too much on my mind to sit there and listen to the teacher. I was going absolutely nuts by the time school had let out. Marco, Jake, his cousin Rachel and her friend Cassie all ate lunch together with some other kid I didn‘t really know, I think his name was Tobias, he was new to our school, so I ate lunch alone. When I got home that day it was no surprise that mom wasn’t home. So the first thing I did was get on the net. I was hoping that Celeste was on so I could talk to her, but then I thought about what Kitana had told me, and didn’t think she would be on if she was sick. I got on anyway because it was the only thing to do when I was alone by myself at home at nights. I signed on to my instant massagers and started looking up stuff on the net that had to do with my homework that would be due the next day. While I was on I decided to look at the Area 51 database that I liked to hack into, but when I didn’t find anything I went back to homework and talkin to friends till about eight when Celeste came online. “Hey girl!! Are you felling any better??” I typed the second she got online. “Yeah I feel a lot better now, I just needed a couple of hrs rest that’s all.” She typed a couple seconds after I imed her “So how was school??” “Boring!! I wish you were there today…” “I’m really sorry… I think the mall food got me sick… I wasn’t feeling good all weekend really… “ “Oh so you did go… did you guys have any fun??” I asked. “Yeah I guess it was fun… it was the mall, you know all the stores and of course Marco and Jake tryin to out do themselves on the games…” “Yeah I know but I still kinda feel left out you know… I mean I don’t see why I can’t go anywhere like I used to… I hate just staying in the house and doin nothen.” “Hey things will get better… your mom won’t be able to control ya like this forever you know… just keep yourself out of trouble till then. Ok?” “Yeah… hey I got to get off… mom will be getting home soon and even if she has another late night she has found a way to keep track of the time I get off the net at night… don’t ask me how… and I thought I was the hacker of the family… well I’ll see you tomorrow at school.” “Ok Heather have a good night see you at school.” And with that I signed out of the net and lay in my bed for a while, and I waited till mom got home from work, or whatever she did on the long nights she wasn’t home. Around 10 that night she came strolling in, followed by a lot of slamming of doors and banging, at one point I thought she had even broken something in the kitchen. I lay there debating the idea of reading her mind; I didn’t really know what was going on but I could tell it wasn’t good. When I finally did go ahead and read her mind to see if I could find out if what she was mad about concerned me I immediately regretted it. She was so mad she gave me a headache within the first couple of seconds when I touched her mind, and I couldn’t pick up any words, just hate. I cut the connection as soon as I could and tried to go to sleep. Tuesday at lunch I finally got to talk to Celeste, but I met up with Marco first and then we went to find her. Celeste was sitting by herself in the cafeteria she had her back toward us when we started to walk up to her. "So that's what they were looking for." She had said when we had gotten close to her. "Who was looking for who” Marco asked her. She looked back very quick and almost fell of the chair she was sitting on. Marco must have thought it was funny to see her almost fall off of her chair because when I looked at him he was smiling. I just sat down, and started to eat, my next class was pretty far away from the lunchroom so I had to hurry to eat before the bell rang. "Hey you weren't reading Chapman’s mind for test answers again were you? And if you were would share them with me this time?" Marco said in a low whisper, he knows that we are telepaths. I just grinned at Marco, and shook my head. "Of course I would, the only reason I didn't last time is because you don't have that class." Celeste told him. "So, who were you talking to?" Marco said looking around. "My new imaginary friend." Celeste said pointing to the empty chair that Marco sits in at lunch. "Well can you tell it to move it is in my spot." He said sitting down in his seat. "Hey where were you yesterday you missed a history test." I asked her. "I what!! Oh man I forgot about it! We can make it up right?" "Yeah, and It's easy. Really, even for you." Marco said and started to laugh like he said something funny. Marco has the same history class as Celeste and I, and for some reason he thinks it is funny that she has trouble in it. "HA HA, very funny, Marco." She said dryly "Yeah I thought so any way. Hey how about I come over today and I'll help you study, the make up is tomorrow, we are doing something else today in history." "Ok, meet me in the woods behind my house, its quieter there and I want to get some fresh air any way." "BBBBBRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGGG” That was the bell telling us that lunch was over. I hurried up and put my tray in the trash. “Well, I’ll see you guys later. I have to run to my class.” I said and started to run to my next class witch was on the other side of the school. I really felt like killing whoever made my class schedule. I got to my class and did my work as quickly as I could, looking at the clock once and a while. I really wanted to be in my history class so I could try to talk to Celeste while we were working with our partners, I just hoped that Marco would understand me choosing her over him. When the bell finally rang for the next class I ran to my next class so I could get there and sat in my seat besides Celeste. “Hey we are goin to be working with partners today, and I want to talk to you about what happened this weekend and Monday night.” She just nodded her head and looked at the teacher when she started to talk to us. “Ok class for those of you that didn’t get to take the test for one reason or another you all can make it up tomorrow. Today we are going to be doing some work with partners of your choice, two to a group please. Ok lets get our partners and then I’ll tell you what we are goin to be doing.” Celeste and I immediately put our desks together. Marco sat with another kid in the class. The teacher came around and gave us the worksheet and left us to work. After the teacher was out of earshot she looked at me. “Ok so what happened this weekend?? And why didn’t you tell me last night on the net?” “Well I didn’t have enough time to tell you for one. What I found out was major. I also had a really weird dream but I’ll tell you after what I heard from my mom.” I tock a deep breath before starting. “Friday night my mom came home really mad. And I do mean pissed, she was so mad it gave me a bit of a headache, but she was talkin about a lot of things I didn’t understand, like the word ‘Visser’, ‘Iniss’ and she had mentioned a name, Elfangor I think it was. Mostly she was mad at two people one named Visser three and Iniss, she was talkin about how it was Iniss’s fault that two other people were running around messing up things, Allaran and Jorna, basically a very confusing conversation for me. I have no idea what she was talkin about, but then that night I had a dream, it was about two aliens, one was hurt and was on the ground, and there was another one standing there over the hurt one and the one that was standing started to change, he turned into a really big creature and ate the one that was laying on the ground. Then on Monday my mom also came home mad, but I wasn’t able to read her mind, she was so mad it gave me a major headache, so I had to stop and I just when to bed.” I looked at Celeste to see what her reaction to what I told her was, but she just looked at me with a concerned look on her face. She looked around the room for a second then looked back at me with the same look on her face she had when I finished talking. “Okay that is it, you really need to get out of there. I don’t know what is goin on but it can’t be good.” “Yea I know but I can’t get away from the house you know this we had the same conversation Friday, I just can’t leave the house and not expect my mom not to come after me.” Celeste shook her head, and then looked around again. I never knew why she was so paranoid; she always got like this when we talked about stuff like this. “Well I just don’t want you involved in something that will most defiantly get you hurt or worse. I know you think you can take care of your self but I think this is bigger than you and me both.” I tock a deep breath, I wish I knew what she was thinking, but I knew not to even try when we got to talking like we were now. She probably had a wall around her thoughts like usual. I looked at our paper we was supposed to be doing, easy work so I started doing it so when the class ended the teacher wouldn’t get mad at us for not doing anything but talk. We basically worked on the paper in silence except for the occasional comment about the paper. After school I rode the bus home, when I got there I just got on the net. I couldn’t concentrate really well, I was thinking about the conversation I had with Celeste. Why was she so upset about what was going on at my home? I knew she cared about me and didn’t want to see me get hurt, but there had to be more to it. She had to know what was going on and she just didn’t want to tell me. I got off my computer and just sat on my bed for a while thinking about what was going on, and tried to make some sense out of how my life was going lately. When my mom came home that night there were no banging of doors or anything that suggested that she was mad. What a relief. I went out to the living room and my mom looked like she was happy to see me for once. “Hi mom good day at work?” I asked her. She looked at me smiling. “Yes, we won a court case today and we all went out to celebrate after work.” “That’s good mom, congratulations on the win!” I told her and looked at my watch, it was 9 o’clock. She was home early today. “I’m glad you won a case today mom. I am going to go to bed early, I’m not feeling real well.” I told her. “Ok well you get to bed and get some sleep.” She said still looking at me lovingly. I went back to my room and tried to get some sleep, but mom’s thoughts keep evading my own. From what I got she wasn’t happy about a court case won, she was happy about some one called Jorna was out of the way, and that she had found the Andalites hide out. She was kinda bummed that some one called Allaran wasn’t there and that he was still out there running around to cause trouble but she was still optimistic about finding him. I feel asleep with mom’s peaceful thoughts in my head.
