Interest in fashion has never been so high in India as it is now, with Indians capturing hearts at the topmost level of international beauty and fashion pageants. Check out these sites to find out what's in and what's out
Hintmag
The fashion Website Hintmag has great
photo spreads, interviews with designers, a good collection of
model photos and interesting features on the work of the world's
most famous designers. Currently, the magazine is presenting its
third installment of Supernova, a series of interviews and
editorial shoots, featuring rising stars of design. This month,
you get a look at Benjamin Cho's new studio to discuss the
designer's post-punk aesthetic and dabbling ways. In the section
called ChicHappens you can check out news and gossip about the
glitteratti of haute couture. Like we read about model mogul and
'dirty old man' John Casablancas leaving the famed model agency
Elite and retiring to live with his 24-year-old Brazilian wife in
Rio.
Face2fame
This is a fashion site only to the extent
that it provides a platform for models to market themselves. The
revenues come from fees paid for various plans. These fees range
from Rs 1,250 a year for a 'Fresh Face' to Rs 10,000 for three
years for professional models. There are other plans for child
artists, babies, actors, singers and dancers. Helpful for
aspiring models is the Modelling Advice section which informs you
about the requirements for becoming a fashion model, finding a
modelling agency, finding a fashion photographer, training to be
a model and the likely modelling scams that you might encounter
on your quest to conquer the world.
Fashionindia

Fashionindia covers a wide gamut of fashion-related information
like fashion history, how to become a model, fashion publications,
bridal fashions, fashion designers, beauty care, product reviews
and schools of fashion. The last lists many leading schools which
cater to the fashion industry right from designing garments and
jewellery to modelling. Details about the school and the kinds of
courses offered are provided. Models and designers can submit
their portfolios to this site for online viewing. You are brought
up to date about fashion happenings through the section Fashion
this Week.
Fashionweb
This UK-based site has a goodly spread of
fashion segments. Its index features designers, ladieswear,
menswear, knitwear, sportswear chindrenswear, accessories,
fabrics, magazines and trade bodies. Each of the sections lists
the leading UK designers and vendors of branded products. The
site has a sensible look at fashion and does not restrict it to
walking the ramp but for use in everyday life. So you have
garments and accessories right from streetwear to physical
activities -- water sports, climbing, fishing, diving, etc -- to
maternity wear for business women. Besides the main index, the
homepage of the site features a fade-in fade-out presentation of
the highlights of the moment, like fashion targetting breast
cancer, shops offering discounts and latest magazine launches.
And if you have a Website, you can ask Fashionweb to host it for
you.
Fashiontelevision
No, this site is not related to the
French Fashion TV that turns you on in India, but is part of the
Canadian site, City TV. Here you can learn about the current
fashion shows of some of the world's top designers like Versace,
Randolph Duke, Richard Tyler, Anna Molinari et al. If you go to
the episodes section, you can see clips of some of the shows.
There is a photogallery which showcases the work of the likes of
Lord Snowdon, John Galliano, Ralph lauren, Sophie Dhal and Chloe.
And if you want to go beyond the Fashion TV site, check out the
links to some of the best fashion sites around the world which
are properly catalogued under labels, stores, magazines, e-magazines,
models and fashion capitals.
FTV
Okay, this is the French fashion site that turns you
on. You can head straight for the lingerie section, but be warned
that you need Flash and Real Player (or its equivalent) to watch
the gyrations of the models and on our slow connections, you will
have a pretty long wait. You can also watch videos of original
fashions, men's fashions, new faces, events (some of them live
from paris) and interviews with the high priests and priestesses
of fashion. While waiting for your downloads, you can check out
the next day's programme of this 24-hour fashion site, so that
you won't miss Nina Ricci's lingerie for Autumn/Winter 2000,
Vanessa Greca's Femme pret a porter or Kenzo's designs on men for
this summer.
Almari
This glossy Indian fashion Website
features some of the top model and designer names in the fashion
world. Besides featuring their pictures and work, it also allows
you to contact them through e-mail. You too can rub shoulders
with the glitterati by submitting your portfolio which will be
vetted by the likes of style guru Prasad Bidapa and the multi-talented
Shobha De before being featured on the site. Other features
include designing and modelling tips, fashion talk, a celeb
corner, information about health and beauty, contests,
downloadable wallpapers and even live fashion shows -- whenever
they are happening.
