Mam'selle History
1954-2005 / Celebrating 51 Years of  Sisterhood
The Mam'selle Social Club was founded October 6, 1954 on the campus  of Mississippi University for Women. The original name chosen for the club was "Mademoiselle", of French origin, meaning "lady." The name was shortened later to "Mam'selle." The official flower selected was the French lilly, the official insignia was the fleur de lis, and the official mascot was the regal lion. There were 18 charter members and they extended bids (invitation for membership) to 20 Freshman girls.  The girls recieved their bids on October 25, 1954 and became the first pledge class. Miss Helen Barlow served as the first sponsor and the club began its long legacy of sisterhood and friendship that Mam'selles of today still enjoy.
