This was my first trip to the Wind River Range. After wandering around in the Great Divide Basin for awhile, I had planned to go on a backpacking trip to the mountains. I wasn't too sure about the geography and didn't have a topo map, although I found the Big Sandy trailhead on the big DeLorme state map. Phil, who I had never met before, had told me over the phone the previous day that the Cirque of the Towers was the thing to see in the South and the Glaciers were the highlight of the North. I didn't see the Cirque on the map but I suppose I got lucky and just stumbled upon the right area. I had originally planned on staying for two nights, but realized I didn't have any fuel left and could either eat the few handfulls of trailmix I had left, go back to town for more fuel, or make a real fire to cook on. After hiking in on the first day and hiking up Mitchell Peak on the second I figured I had had about enough without needing to make a fire. The area seemed incredibly overcrowded anyway.
