Hi, I'm Autumn Ewing. I have been showing German Shepherd dogs and Schipperkes since I was 10. My first show schipperke was Belann's Merry-Go-Round. I called "Mamare" (ma'-mare) for short. Thus my kennel name of "MAMARE". Merry was and is my "heart" dog. My first Champion.
Schipperkes are wonderful pets, but they are not for everyone. They are high energy dogs. There is never a dull moment if you own a schip!
If you are considering a schipperke, you should ask yourself some questions before hand. Do you have the time to devote to being "owned" by a schipperke? House breaking a puppy is work, and takes time and consistancy in training. A Schip gives unconditional love.
Schipperkes have a fairly long live span, are you prepared to live with this dog for up to 17 years?
A schipperke should also have a fenced yard. They LOVE to investigate, and will think nothing of leaving their yard to investigate. Their "selective" hearing means all the calling of them will go unheeded until they have satisfied their curiosity.
With a lot of love and attention the Schipperke makes a wonderful family pet.
