ü      Read the following article and do the vocabulary handout.

o       BBC’s Mitochondrial Eve article

ü      Be prepared to discuss both the textbook reading and the article in class.

Wednesday

Cellular Organelles

ü      Read pages xx-xx in your textbook about the other cellular organelles.

ü      Refer to the Cells Alive! Website.  Go to the Animal Cell and Plant Cell pages.  Bring to class three differences you saw between plant and animal cells.

Friday

Membranes

ü      Read pages xx-xx in your textbook about membranes in the cell.

ü      Visit NCBI’s Molecular Cell Biology page.  After studying the picture on the main page, click “5.3: Biomembranes…” at the top of the page to go to text explanation.  Be sure to click on the many hyperlinks in the text to see some cool pictures!  (This page is full of technical details about cellular membranes—don’t get bogged down in the details, we will discuss all this in class!)
