Miss Teen USA 2001 - Samuel's Pageant Page

I know I am kind of late to do a review, but if you enter this page it means you want to hear what I have to say! I will begin by telling you guys how impress I am with the 2001 edition of Miss USA and Miss Universe! So I was expecting this one to be excellent, and boy they showed me how the new organization is up to the job! From the beginning to the end, the show was entertaining and exciting! I like suspense and there was quite a deal in this one since we had no idea who was going to come out if this fabulous group of girls.

Brian McFayden and Mandy Moore were the hosts for this event with Ashley Coleman as the background commentator! I was impress by the host, both Brian and Mandy are VJ�s for MTV, so they knew how to act in front of a camera plus their personalities were fantastic to watch! Much like Sinbad in Miss Universe 2000.

This show was filled with performances by today�s biggest stars from Mandy Moore to Jagged Edge! I personally feel that it�s not necessary to have all of these performances cause this time could be used for the delegates. It would be nice if they showed some little movies of the delegates talking before they come to the pageant. It would also be nice to hear what they have to say plus it gives us an idea about how they could perform.

The introduction was indeed one of the best in years, since you could hear the girls talk, even if it was for 2 seconds! I think the introduction should take longer than that, a full 15 minutes would be perfect! I think last years introduction was excellent but if they talked like this year, it would have been perfect!

The top 10 were very good!! I was shocked that Virginia didn�t make it! She was the clear favorite for the crown! Another surprise was Delaware and Minnesota, both exceptional girls with excellent personalities and great figure! Some of the top 10 were surprises, even if they were good surprises, like Massachusetts and Washington! I couldn�t believe when I saw that 7 of this years top 10 were also in last years top 10, they were: Georgia, Washington, Texas, DC, Louisiana, Indiana and Missouri!! What about variation? I think they all deserved candidates but still, 7 is too much!

Like you see I only got California, Indiana, New York and Texas correctly! I liked Missouri from the preliminary competition but I never thought she would get this far, much less win it!! I am very satisfied with her performance, so let�s get to it!!!

The competition begun with what I will call a personal fashion show! I always like these competition, cause you get to learn some stuff about the delegates! My favorite is by far New York, she as poise, intelligence and a great catwalk! What more can we ask for? The crown, but that is another story! They were all wearing outfits by Tommy Jeans. The most impressive after NY was California, she graduated from High School at the young age of 16! So she is already half way through her University before she is even old enough to drink liquor (well in Ontario at least!)! The music was also fantastic, it is very energetic, very teen.

After the change in Miss USA and Miss Universe, the old swimsuit format is finally back in place! I didn�t really care, but together is better cause you remember what the others looked like! New York and Missouri were the best! After this competition I had an idea it was between Missouri and Texas but that all changed in the next competition! All the rest look basically the same except for a few exceptions that could have maybe worked on their body a little more before coming to South Padre Island! Is it me or did some of them had some breast augmentation? I found it really weird that some did that at such young age. Well Venezuela does it, why not them! It is a teen show, so I think it�s a little too far, don�t you think? This part was also very teen, you wouldn�t see some Miss contestant in this kind of atmosphere! From the lightening to the decorations, the competition was indeed very teen.

The evening gown was well made this year, all the delegates were sensational especially Missouri and New York, from now on I knew it would between them. Missouri as an attitude that is makes you like her, she fit the Miss Teen USA image so good! Full of energy, different and a teen look! Some of the gown were rather simple compare to Miss Texas who had an excellent gown, in the last couple of years Texas as done a great job preparing the girls and this years delegate is a fine example of their work. There was also some gowns that were out of fashion, like DC, big gowns are not in anymore. Miss Missouri won this competition hands down with over 0,30 ahead of her nearest rival, Texas who won the swimsuit competition.

Now it was time for the final top 5, since Miss Universe, the top 5 goes through 2 interviews, one is to answer questions of another delegate and then the final question. The top 5 were very good in interview. First of all, since there is no interview in the top 10 round, the top 5 is actually the most beautiful girls there, and they don�t usually excel in interview!

In the first part of the competition, they had to answer a question that was made by another delegate. The question reflected on today�s event and entertainment. They were all very good but Missouri stood out again with her fabulous answer on what is the best thing about boys. Massachusetts was a funny, talking like she was 12, getting butterflies when she sees a boy. I think she could have thought of something better! She should have talked about stage fright! She must have had that during the night! Miss New York got us with her charm and fabulous personality, she did an interview in GLOBAL BEAUTIES, so if you see this Gloria�.You did an EXCELLENT JOB! You caught our hearts! She had a teen look and a personality that goes along with it. From now on, I knew it was between Missouri and New York, but there was one important event that was coming soon! THE FINAL QUESTION!

Even if there is not cut between the 2 interviews, I think that the final answer is the most important thing. If they want the 1st interview to count, they should judge it and make it as a final judge! So the interview would be worth something. The final question was about the President�s daughter; they were caught drinking (under-age). The top 5 looked ready to answer this opinion question. First off, was Massachusetts; she told us that they should have had more respect pf their dad because he is in a high profile situation. New York told us that it was the president�s fault cause he didn�t look at what they were doing. The 3rd to pass the test was Texas, she informed us that they should treat them fairly cause it wasn�t their fault that they are in the public eye. Indiana told us that they should have respected the laws since their father was the President. Lastly was Missouri, told us that they are role models and them being caught doing that is like a down to teenagers. The best was New York, but Missouri did the best throughout the night! I wanted Missouri to win but I wouldn�t have mind to see New York win it! Let�s see what appened!

Now it was time to announce the 4th RU, 3rd RU, 2nd RU, 1st RU and the new Miss Teen USA! I would have put them:

5th- Massachusetts
4th- Indiana
3rd- Texas
2nd- New York
1st- Missouri

But the judges made the descision and here were the results

4th RU - INDIANA
3th RU - TEXAS
2nd RU - MASSACHUSETTS
1st RU - NEW YORK
Miss Teen USA - MISSOURI

I was satisfied with the results even if I think that New York was the best in Interview. Missouri was clearly the winner after the evening gown competition. The judges liked her a lot and it certainly showed in the scores. I think she will be a great Miss Teen USA and I hope to see her in another pageants in the near future! The one to contiue pageants is New York, she could win Miss USA! So let's see if we will ever see her again. Not to take away from the winner, here she is Miss Teen USA 2001
