WOW!! All I have to say !! It was great !! Everything was perfect, the parade of nations showed the National Costumes!! There was just one thing missing like the fact that the delegates didn't show their pride in the country they represent by talking in the Parade of Nations. The dancers were great and I thought it was very incredible! I didn't thought it was going to be so good! Now the Host were great as usual, Jack knows how to make a good show. Ali and Julie were great, they talked about good things. Perhaps breast implants is getting boring!! Did you noticed Ali may have had one too!! Well they talked about it last year!!!
This year we learned more about Trinidad & Tobago compare to last year. Another thing that made me mad was that they didn't show the preliminary scores which would have been helpful this year because of the number of delegates who had the chance of making top 10. |

The top 10 werea surprise!! I guessed only 5 of the delegates and most of people only picked 3 or 4!! Ghana and Jamaica were my biggest surprise, Miss South Africa was a good choice, I liked the way she talks!! South Africa made the top 10 last year, so she wasn't unkown.. Miss india, that country made the top 10 for 8 years, she had a great personality, looked very intelligent and reminded me of Sushmita Sen. Miss Venezuela, need I say more...since 1981, she had some plastic surgery which made her look even more perfect, people say she was not intelligent but I thought she was smart, she gave excellent answers!! The biggest suprise of them all...was USA not making the top 10. She was only 5 feet 5 so maybe the judges didn't think she was tall enough!! Well this year there were almost 30 delegates that could of made the top 10, so maybe she was not as good as the others!! I wanted Miss Canada in the top 10 , I'm from Canada, so maybe that's why! I noticed Miss Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Bolivia to be very beautiful and very unique!! They would have made good top 10 contestants. Well back to the top 10. Miss Botswana, was not the most beautiful but she is a very smart person! She will make a good Miss Universe!!!! Miss Mexico was the most beautiful there. Miss Philippines reminds me a little of Miss Universe 1973 from the Philippines. Miss Spain was doing so well...but she had to mess up on her final question...darn..she would have made a good Miss Universe also!! I know you all heard Miss Philippines tripped in the evening gown competition, they told us many times in the evening. She talked about it in the 2nd Interview. As Ali said next year every girl will be tripping!! I watched Miss World 1998 and there were some delegates from that pageant here at Miss Universe...like Miss Cayman island, Ireland and many others. And others will be in the 1999 Miss world competition in November. |

| Now it was time for the interview!! Starting with Miss Spain, I thought she was rushed out of stage, she only had to answer one question. It was her dancing which took all the time, still it was a beautiful dance!!. Miss Mexico didn't even answer the question about what people do for heartburn, but it was still a great answer..I just love the way she says TORTILLA!! Miss Jamaica was funny and very down to earth!! She answered the questions, and she look like she knows a lot about Italy! Her use of Italian was wonderful, she was so funny with her let's go to the movie part!! Miss Puerto Rico was not asked good questions, it was only about herself and not the country she was supposed to learn!! She made still good remarks about her values and herself but Jack could have asked her better questions!! Miss Philippines was great, she love Discovery Channel!! She learned about Guatemalan song which sound interesting !! Miss Ghana got a lesson from Miss Aruba....hello!! Hair does not have to do with a country...YOU CAN HAVE A BAD HAIR DAY ANYWHERE ON EARTH!! Miss Botswana talked about The Amazon jungle and it is a beautiful place Im sure!! Miss South Africa was very good!! She answered with funny answers and she was not boring, she was trained for sure!. Miss India just cracks me up!! She was funny and a well deserved first place in the interview competition.She talked about a debate she and Mexico had about the social resolution and woman! Miss Venezuela was so different than I expected, she was smart and very friendly. I thought she was winning that competition!! Venezuelan are usually is not like her, look at Veruska, she was answering and boom to the next question. Carolina talked and I listen and she was interesting even if I couldn't even understand a word she was saying, that's how I loved her!! The interview portion was better than last year, the delegates actually knows something about the other delegate country, not like the 2nd to be called in the 1998 Top 10 from last year!! They better continue this World tour portion, which is better than a interview with the delegates!!! |

Here is my One-By-One Comment list on EG and Swim!!!!
Let's start with Miss Spain- Diana Nogueira, She had a beautiful body which made her win the Swimsuit and Evening gown competition!! She looked great, nice long legs! Her evening gown was stunning, I liked the back it was cut very very low which made it more beautiful. She had a way of walking that was different. She was a obvious choice of top 5 and way to go Spain!! I am never going to say this phrase again " She had low scores because she was first" because Miss Universe 1999 prove us all wrong!!! She was the first and almost won everything!! which was a good thing, for one time judges were right on the money!! Miss Mexico- Sylvia Salgado wore a 1 piece swimsuit, she could of gone with the 2 piece I think!! She looks like Miss Colombia from last year, Sylvia Fernanda Ortiz in her evening gown don't you think???? She is very sexy and could of made the top 5 if the judge didn't gave her such low scores in Interview!!! Her evening gown was a 9.99!!! Miss Jamaica- Nicole Haughton was a nice surprise., she looked good in swimsuit, she has a nice body and what really hurt her was her evening gown, it didn't look like an 90's gown!. She also put her hair in a wrong way which didn't do her justice. Miss Puerto Rico- Brenda Lopez, was so beautiful, she looked great in the swimsuit, she looks really thin! In the evening gown she wore a red Tommy Hilfiger design dress which was not a good choice, delegates should not wear red in evening gown competition!! She should have gone with the the preliminary one which I have a picture of!! I couldn't find a pic of the other Gown!! Sorry!!! Miss Philippines-Miriam Quiambao, what a girl, she is beautiful and stunning, she wore a 1 piece swimsuit and again she could of wore a 2 piece!! Her evening gown was stunning, she was not going to fall this time....maybe she was attached to the ceiling to be sure!! LOL it's just a joke!! She had a sexy way of walking like Ali and Julie said!! Before I continue I want to comment on the show, t was LIMBO time!! It was amazing to see that woman do her stuff!!! I can't even limbo and her she did it at 12 inches from the floor!!! She must of practice a lot to do that!!! It was similar from last year Swimsuit Competition, they had fire!! I think the Swimsuit Competition has come a long way since the begining, even in the 1990 it as come a long way! Since last year I like them even more, they put life into the competition!!

Now I will continue with the rest of the delegates!!! Miss Ghana- Akuba Cudjoe wore a 2 piece swimsuit which fit ger good! She wasn't as thin as the others but she still looked good in swimsuit! Her evening gown was not a good choice!! It would of been better if the bottom of the dress would have been flared and longer. The thing she wore was something diffrent, something new is always good!! I don't have a lot to say about this girl. Miss Botswana- Mpule Kwelagobe, she is thin did you noticed she has a big belly button!! It would have been fun to see her hair down for the Swimsuit competiton!! She had a interesting evening gown, but I found it was not very 90's!! I didn't like the colour but it was her choice!! Miss South Africa- Sonia Raciti looks great in Swimsuit she has long legs and a beautiful body!!!! She had a beautiful evening gown....very different and original!! Miss India- Gul Panag....WHY??? She had brains but she didn't have the body!!! She was not what I was expecting, she was in the Miss Universe competiton she should of made some exercise or something!! Come on was she thinking, winning this with only her brains!!! She was smart and could have won the competiton if she had a good body!! Her evening gown was beautiful and that gave her a boost. She missed the top 5 for a obvious reason....swimsuit!! (I will see my email with bad comments but this is what i think). Miss Venezuela- Carolina Indriago looked great!! She received such low scores for her swimsuit. Judges were so wrong here!!!! Well, I expected more from her! She didn't look as good as I wanted!!! Her evening gown was not that good. I liked the preliminary one better!!! Well she is Miss Venezuela and she was a beautiful woman and I guessed she deserve a top 5 spot!! All the girls are beautiful but only one can win and if you go at the competition looking not really good you put your chance really down!! |

| Now was the time for the TOP 5!!! They were Miss South Africa, Miss Venezuela, Miss Spain, Miss Botswana and Miss Philippines!!! Jack was again the one to ask the questions!!! Miss South Africa was first, she was not that good this time!!! She sounded over rehearsed!! . Miss Venezuela was good, I like this girls, she was my FAV to win!!! they talked about her being the first black Miss Venezuela!!! She also said that people were not glad about that and I don't understand WHY??? Balck people have equal chance of winning the crown!!! She's different not like most Miss Venezuela!! Miss Spain also gave great answers, she said she wanted to be a lab technician and she wanted to find a cure for AIDS and Cancer!! GOOD girl!! The other question was a litle weird "what is the best part of a dress, the front or the back??"!! What a question!! Miss Botswana was good, she said she wanted to be a pioneer for young woman!! GOOD!! Another weird question about Bill Clinton!!! It would have ben so funny if she talked about MONICA LEWINSKY :)but she talked about eduction!!! Miss Philippines talked about (OF COURSE!!) :) her falling in the evening gown competition in the presentation show!!! She said something weird about she was a example for all the woman who had fell of and on stage. She pull it off by saying it took courage to continue!! I was glad with the top 5. I know it was going to be a close call!!!! My top 3 were Venezuela, Spain and Philippines!!!! |

Now was the last part of the competion....Last question!!!!!!!
This year it was:
"IF MISS UNIVERSE WOULD BECOME PREGNANT DURING HER REIGN, SHOULD SHE BE ALLOWED TO BE MISS UNIVERSE"
Miss Spain: "I don't see why not, her head would still be the same. She would be bringning someone into this world. The only thing would be it could stop her in her travels"
Miss Philippins: "I think she should continue as Miss Universe if she was an good example of being Miss Universe and she acheived all of her goals"
Miss Botswana: "Personaly, I think Miss Universe is celebrating her Femininity. It will not stop her in her duties. She is celebrating her femininity so she should continue as Miss Universe"
I thought Miss Botswana answered the best and that is why she won the contest!! Miss Spain did so well during the competition and it was a shame she didn't finish her answer!! Miss Philippines wasn't comfortable with the question!!! If she accomplish her goals!! I would have like to see miss India here, I am sure would have been a GOOD answer!! |
