Miss Universe 1997 was the last year of the traditional way! I think that this was the worst production in the 90's! The host was not that good either and Marla didn't tell us what append in backstage. There was a lot of controversy in this pageant because of Alicia Machado! She had gained weight and she almost lost her title! But at the end she kept it and she had a lot of support by the people that loved her!

The usual girls were in again, like Miss USA, Miss Venezuela and Miss India. Miss Puerto Rico was in the top 10, her country won 3 Miss Universe crown and the most recent is 1993 Dyanara Tores! Miss Trinidad and Tobago was in the top 10 in 95 and she made it again this year. Miss Curacao and Panama were the favorites and Italy was the first black woman to be Miss Italy.
USA, Venezuela and Curacao
The first competition was the interview! They didn't ask many questions and most of them were not very good! Miss Sweden and USA sang and Miss Estonia and Venezuela danced for us! I think singing and dancing doesn't tell us how intelligent the girls are, and I really think the are VERY intelligent otherwise they would not be at the Miss Universe pageant when almost half of the competitions are interviews!
The swimsuit was again like last year, based on the past! I didn't really like their swimsuits! I think it was too colourful, They all look great especially Curacao and Panama! They were my favorites! This was the first year that they were allowed to wear a 2 piece swimsuit! Miss Estonia wad also very good and I thought she was going to be in top 6!
The evening gown portion was just fantastic! I loved the gowns and the music! Miss Venezuela had the best gown I had seen! Miss Curacao was also my favorite here with her beautiful with gown! Miss Panama was sensational and I would have like her to win! She of course won Miss International 98, so good for her! Miss Puerto Rico had almost the same gown as Miss Venezuela and they both look great! Margot bourgeois was wearing a gorgeous gold gown.

This was also the last year to have the top 6, now it's top 5, if they would have left it to 6 Brazil, Michela Marchis and India Gul Panag would have had another chance for the crown! Miss Italy, Curacao, Panama, USA, Venezuela and Trinidad/Tobago made the top 6! The judges question were not that good this year but Venezuela was going to be in the top 10 with her awesome answer on what she would do of she found out that a girl had received the questions in advanced and she said that she would ask her to give it to her so she can share it with everyone!

The top 3 were USA Venezuela and T&T!! The final question was if you had a day with no rules what would you do that would be outrageous! Miss Venezuela said she would travel around the world, USA said she would eat everything in the world.....TWICE! I am sure she would be full after that... LOL :) and T&T said she wouldn't wear anything! Miss USA gave the best answer and she was the winner! I think she improved a lot during her reign and n MU 98 she look 20 times better! I also saw Secrets of Beauty Pageants and she was crying because she had to give up her crown and she said as a joke that she was going to be the 1st one to defend her title!
