Miss Universe 2001 was held in Bayamon, Puerto Rico this year! It was not spectacular like Miss Universe 1999 but it was acceptable. They decided to make some changes this year, like the abolition of the top 3. I think this was a good idea because sometimes some girls are left out of the top 3 because they faltered a bit in their questions, this way they have a second chance. What can I say about the hostess? They were bad! I must say that it was a good idea to have models host the show because they know how it feels to be onstage! Instead they should have been backstage (like Ali Landry and Julie Moran). Ricky Martin was awesome, but he should have performed "She Bangs". The production music was awsome! From the beginning to the end, the music was top notch. It was very fitting for the show because it had a carnival feeling. It was very nice to see former Miss Universe like Dyanara Torres and Lupita Jones! The stage was very unique, when you saw a top view you could see it was the face of an animal.
Opening Number
The Opening Number was the best in years! You actually heard the girls talk! Even though you could only see them for 3 seconds, it was still perfect! The national costumes were better onstage than pictures! The girls were divided in regions like they did it years ago, South America, Europe, Asia, Mediterranean, Africa, North and Central America and lastly the Caribbean. I like some of the accents, especially the girls from South America! The group from Africa was the best at introducing themselves. There were some girls who got my attention in this portion, like Bulgaria. Some of the delegates shocked me when I saw them on TV, like Brazil. She wasn't what I expected.
There were some surprises!! Israel and France were 2 of them! D'aprs moi, France only made top 10 because of the scandal (it was said she was a man). Although Israel wasn't in my top 10, she was a good choice. My favorites, Greece and Venezuela, made top 10! I had some doubts about USA and India this year but they came threw! Nigeria was a favorite in Puerto Rico so it was nice to see her up there. Russia was another surprise but she was a favorite in the presentation show. Puerto Rico, the home girls made it! She is so gorgeous! She was definitely in the top 3 at presentation show! Poor Miss Spain called 1st again! Well it's better to be called first than not being called at all! Spain was called 1st 3 years in a row. Where was Colombia???? She was one of my favorites for the crown! She must have trouble in her interview. Miss Canada was also in my top 10, but her medium performance in the presentation show didn't help her.
The Swimsuit competition was VERY good, the best in years. If they did it in one portion, it would have been the best. The song was perfect for the mood; the swimsuit videos were a good addition, that way we could see more of the girls in a natural setting and without the stress of being in top 10! Spain had a very good body. She looked a little shy though. Venezuela was what I expected; she had a typical Venezuelan body. I was disappointed with her score; she should have been in the top 3. Greece was by far the best, her body is almost perfect and she sure knows how to move. People said that India was horrible, but she wasn't that bad, she was very good actually. I just had a feeling about Nigeria, even if she wore a one piece swimsuit she had a Wendy Fitzmilliam look which was good. France started to show she had problems with her arm. She was not the best in swimsuit. Puerto won the competition. She deserves it because she was awesome! She wasn't the best though; Venezuela or Greece should have won this honor.

Evening Gown this year was FABULOUS! I love the music, the gowns and the production! The gowns were the best I have seen in years! SpainWOW! I simply love that dress! It looks even better on tape! Venezuela, she wore the same gown as in Miss Venezuela! She was breathtaking; She has an ability to walk that makes you love her immediately. Another good gown was Puerto Rico, I saw her in pictures with different gowns but this one was the best. Greece looked so good in that pink gown. It was very simple, but she made it look like a million bucks. Miss USA, made a bright idea by changing gowns because she had quite a bit of trouble with her new one in the presentation show. Nigeria had a statuesque look by the way her gown was made. Israel had a very sexy but simple gown. India was way better than I expected.

TOP 5 Scores
The top 5 was perfect. The best delegates made it. Puerto Rico was the favorite in the judges' eyes; she won both evening gown and swimsuit. Greece, my favorite, was in second. Because they cut off the top 3, the 5 finalist had to past threw 2 interview session. The first part was the judge's questions. India wasn't that good compare to former Miss India. She managed to answer her questions in an acceptable way, being first also hurt her. Venezuela wasn't that good either, there is something wrong with her smile, it looks very fake. She was one of my favorites so I was disappointed to see that. Her questions weren't good either so that didn't help. Puerto Rico was one of the best here. She spoke in English, but that didn't stop her at all. Miss Greece was in my opinion the best. She told us about her being in an organization that helped the injured from the earthquake in Greece back in 1999. USA was excellent in interview as she was in Miss USA. Her first language is English so that helped her.
The last interview was the final questions were all the 5 delegated had to answer the same question. It was: "If you could change something about the past, what would that be?" India said she would change the time she was sick. The rest of the 4 girls said that they wouldnt change anything by saying they were satisfied with her past. Greece answered the best. She said that she was happy the mistakes that she did because that way she will not repeat them again. Miss Puerto Rico said that she didn't have any regrets. Miss USA was good too by saying that the trouble she went threw made her who she is today. Venezuela said almost the same thing than Miss USA by saying that the past made her who she is. After this, here was my choice: Greece Puerto Rico Venezuela USA India Although USA answered better than Venezuela, I preferred Venezuela's performance throughout the night. Miss Puerto Rico was clearly the winner because she was the crowd favorite. Greece was clearly one of the best there and she deserved to win. The winner is

It was very breathtaking when almost everybody in the stadium stood up to hear the announcement of the new queen. Imagine the devastation if Greece would have won!!!!!! I was happy that Puerto Rico won, she was a great representative. Being the hometown girl helped her though. But I'm still statified with the results.
