Are We Better Off

Someone said he was a terrorist
Yet! He got across our border
Someone said we'd better watch him close
But we lost him just like most.
Are We Better Off?

My friend lost his job, home and his car
But he was not alone, a few thousand more
Did the same thing, so where is their joy and
What do they sing
Are They Better Off

Two Skyline Monuments and thousands who died
By airplanes from our clear blue sky
Those who try to help, god rest their souls
And yet so many just added to the toll.
Are They Better Off?

Then Ben Laden was the man of time
Knowing where he was but so hard to find
Went off to Afghanistan for the Al-Qeada
search
Put on a big move and gave a big lurch.
Did we help those people or fill them with jive?
Is Ben Laden dead or alive?
Are They Better Off?

And then we told the world, the U.N. and all
There's a mad man with weapons that wants to kill us all
He's got guns, germs and weapons of mass destruction
So we better get him now before he starts his destruction.
Are They Better Off?

Now soldiers come home in boxes so grim
Some with no sight, some with no limbs,
Parents missing children and children missing dads
Bringing them home would make them glad
We give up our freedom each and every day
So they get theirs, but in what way?

More soldiers sent and more ships aloft
You ask us Sir are we better off?
