The Diverse Shoals Region
Downtown Florence is located on a gentle hill overlooking the Tennessee River.  This trellised  historical district represents an affluent neighborhood.  People have taken advantage of this physical feature. In the Bend of the River area west of Florence there are many limestone deposits. This  causes sinkholes that fill with water and create wetlands.  These were created naturally by underground erosion.
As the city grew, so did the demand for electricity. Delivering electricity can also be aesthetically pleasing by discreetly placing lines. The demand for electricity can also be seen in rural areas.  These lines are strategically placed and aesthetically maintained.
Following a nationwide trend of downtown renewal, Florence has invested resources to attract people back to its urban center. The cultural perceptions in rural areas allows for environmental pollution.
