| As I walk the paths I once had tread Old but fond memories fill my head. Hello my friend where have you been the paths they seem to say. The old birch trees wave their leaves in a wise and knowing way. The babbling creek gossips to the stream wondering if I am here to stay. Amidst it all stand the log walls of the cabin we called our home. Spirits live here giving me cheer letting me know I am not alone. Overwhelmed by the smell of the fireweed on our hill my memories become more vivid still. The fires lit and their we sit under the hiss of a Coleman wick. The smell of the woodstove up the stackpipe rose warming my heart as it filled my nose. When I blinked my eyes as if years had gone by our family had grown a little older. From the leaves on the trees and the chill in the breeze I knew soon it would be getting colder. Then as if it were real I heard a snowmobile and the engine was followed by laughter. It was my brother and I heading off for a ride with the playful dogs running after. Oh the dogs what comfort they brought lets talk about mans best friend. Whether it be Gabe or Mitch, doesn't matter which our home they were ready to defend. A blue Chevy truck pulls up that I quickly recognise My mother runs from the house happy to see my fathers arrived. They run to each other holding one another in a warm embrace. The sight of it all holds me enthralled with a smile upon my face. The northen lights began shining bright as they danced across the sky The snow so white catching their light reflects it in all our eyes. For a minute there I continued to stare at the wonders in my mind. Then I slowly rose feeling the wind blow I gazed at the mountains high. Sadly turning away I had to say"I MISSED THOSE DAYS GONE BY" |
