| This is our beautiful Lily Marlene-Lori Chmielowski...yes we are aware that her name has as many characters as the alphabet, and some might say we are crazy...but, there was a method to our madness. Some of you may know this but many I am sure do not. "Lily Marlene" is a song that was sung by Marlene Dietrich during the 2nd world war. The song was actually written by a soldier during the 1st world war who had a girlfriend "Lily" he had a friend on the front with him that had a girlfriend "Marlene"...The first soldier (name unkown to me) wrote a song for himself and his friend combining the two names. The song became more or less the adopted song of the 2nd world war. The German soldiers sang it all of the time and the American soldiers fell in love with the catchy tune and began singing it in German. This did not sit well with the officers of the soldiers. So an english version was sung Marlene Dietrich (ironically a German) for the Americans. The reason our Lily was given this name was becasue my Husbands mother (God Rest her Soul, She died when Lily was only 6 months old) said that if we did not give her Marlene for a middle name she would call her that anyhow. She loved the song and the name. We are very pleased that we could make her happy by doing this for her especially now that she is gone. The Lori in Lilys name is of course for my Mother (you have probably already viewed her page in this site by now. (I Love You Mom). Now that you know the history of Lilys name....let me tell you about Lily herself. She is such a breath of fresh air and always a gift to have around. She is a little miracle as she had some very rough days in her little beginning, including 2 very serious surgeries. She is doing wonderful now and we pray she will continue to do so. She is lively to say the least and always has somthing to do or get into. We love you Lily and would do anything for you..."For You Lily Marlene"..."For You Lily Marlene". |
