| Shoofly Pie This is a traditional Pennsylvia Dutch recipe, and VERY Sweet! Ingredients: Pastry for one crust 3/4 cup flour 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 3 tablespoons margarine or butter 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmet 3/4 cup hot water 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup dark molasses 1 egg yolk, beaten well Directions: Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Prepare pastry for pie, this recipe is only for what goes into the pie so use your favorite pie crust recipe. Mix flour, brown sugar, butter, salt, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg with your hands until crumbly. Mix the water and baking soda in small separate bowl, then stir in the molasses and egg yolk. Pour this mixture into the crust-lined pie plate and sprinkle the crumbly mixture on top of this. Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F. Then reduce oven to 325 degrees F and bake about 20 minutes or until the crums are brown |
