The Sailor

The poor sailor was afraid indeed,
Since it had occurred to him,
that his very life was at the mercy of the wind.

A wind, which could, if it chose to,
Upturn his boat and send him miles below the sea,
Thus putting an end to his life,
A life that he held, in considerably high esteem...

But then, the wind was kind,
It steered his boat, taking it,
Farther and farther away from the shore.
And the sailor left behind, not just the shore,
But with it, all his apprehensions and fears.

As he saw around him, a new sensation gripped him,
When he felt waves of water uncurling beneath his feet,
And the sky stretching; and meeting,
In all horizons, in all dimensions, the sea, and the sea alone...
In all sky and sea, the sailor realized,
What a nobody he was,
And he realized suddenly, that he didn't want to see any shore
As life didn't seem so terribly important any more...
