Title : The Count of Monte Cristo

Author : Alexandre Dumas

The story of the Count of Monte Cristo revolves around the main character of Edmond Dantes. In the first few pages, Dantes thinks he is unmistakably among one of the happiest persons on earth - and a happy person, needless to say, deserves envy. Unfortunately, Dantes is the victim of envy of two of his rivals, for two reasons; the first, his love, the second, his position as the captain of a ship. Dantes, simple & honest, suspects nothing. Thanks to the envy of his friends, his marriage is broken off; he is sentenced to prison. From the highest peak of happiness, Dantes fell to incomprehensible depths of the dark. How he seeks revenge is the rest of the story, which reveals the wonderful ability of Dumas to handle a huge cast. Dantes' methods of revenge are artful & witty. But in the end, even when he has avenged all the wrongs done to him, he knows that something is incomplete, incomplete in the very nature of human life. No reader will ask for more. This book is full of suspense, drama, action, romance, emotion & philosophy. The book tells of the varieties in human character, the varied responses of people to trying circumstances, and the ultimate triumph of the truth & goodness. He language is beautiful & powerful. Descriptions of character, pain, love leaves an everlasting impression on the heart & mind of the reader. In the minute details of the book lies its awesome art and beauty. The readers' paradise, this book will continue to be one of the most important works of literature & remain eternally in the hearts of people.
