Who's Eligible?
Any person who contributed to the mediocrity of Minnesota athletics
during their career with Minnesota and no longer has professional sports ties
to Minnesota in the area they are being nominated for, is eligible.
How is the ballot determined?
Anyone can nominate a person to the ballot. Approximately one
month prior to the induction date, the MAMA Board of
Directors will select 20 nominees for the ballot in a scientific
process roughly as guarded as the recipe for McDonald's
secret sauce.
How does the vote work?
Once the ballot has been generated, the vote will take place.
Anyone is eligible to vote, using a scoring system devised by
MAMA using data from NASA experiments in outer space. The votes
of the MAMA Board of Directors (currently two members) will
be averaged, along with an additional cumulative vote of
all internet-voters. A nominee must receive an average score of 5 points per ballot to gain admittance to the MAMA Hall of Fame.
What happens to the nominees who don't get elected?
Any nominee who gets a vote is eligible for the next ballot.
The one's who don't get votes are dubbed "losers" and are not
considered worthy of further consideration for mediocre status.
(Unless one of the Board of Directors likes them.)
Say, what's this scoring formula?
Each voter ranks his/her top 10 candidates. The top candidate
receives 10 points, the 2nd receives 9 points, etc.
What about the great mediocre players of yester-year that the average internet voter has forgotten about?
The MAMA Board of Directors is aware of the need to recognize the average
players from our father's generation. As such, we reserve the right to
induct an "old-timer" by a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors.
How often are players inducted into the Hall?
Every February 29th. (i.e. Every four years.)
Who's on the MAMA Board of Directors?
Mark Salzwedel and Doug Salzwedel.
They sound cool. What are their home addresses?
Forget it. We know the internet is full of scum wanting
to rid the world of cool people.
What are the qualifications a MAMA nominee should have?
The most important thing to remember is that the members of the MAMA Hall of Fame are not bad players or bad people! They are players who had average careers in Minnesota sports. Often, these players had very long tenures in Minnesota sports, without ever putting up great numbers or receiving consideration for outstanding achievement (such as an All Star selection). However, all of these players contributed to what success their team had. They are players, typically of high character, who are best described as solid or dependable. Some of these players came in with high expectations that were never achieved. Others managed to achieve a long, yet unspectacular, career without having any expectations placed on them at all.
What is the MAMA Hall Of Fame - Amateur Division?
The MAMA Hall Of Fame - Amateur Division was created in 1996 to
recognize the mediocre contributions of Minnesota Gopher and other
amateur athletes. Because college athletes only compete for 4 years,
they were at a disadvantage in the MAMA voting. The Amateur Division
is run the same way as the regular Hall, except the MAMA Board of
Directors voters only gets to rank the top 5 and give them 5-1 points accordingly. The internet-voters only provide their top pick of
the top 5 amateurs, with the highest vote getter receiving 5 points,
the second highest receiving 4 points, etc. The top vote getter is
inducted into the MAMA Hall Of Fame - Amateur Division.
Isn't this election system kind of hokey?
