In recognition of his mediocre contribution to Minnesota sports

SCOTT LEDOUX

is hereby inducted into the

Minnesota Assembly of Mediocre Athletes Hall of Fame

on this 29th day of February, 2000

Probably the most famous boxer in Minnesota's history, Scott's "block his punches with my face" strategy earned him three heavyweight title fights. Although he never quite cracked the elite upper-ranks of the heavyweight division, "The Fighting Frenchman" earned a reputation as a man who would never back down during the "Golden Era" of heavyweights, including fights against George Foreman, Leon Spinks, Larry Holmes, Greg Paige, Mike Weaver, Ken Norton, Frank Bruno, and Gerrie Coetzee. He's also sparred with Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.

Biography

Highlights:
Knocked off Howard Cosell's toupee in a post-fight interview
Scott is the only fighter to have boxed 11 world champions

Lowlights:
0-3 in title fights.

Mediumlights:
Served a brief stint as a referee with Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Association
The good news is no ref ever counted to 10 over me, the bad is that I remember everything.
Most observers agree that 4 of his "losses" (to Dino Dennis, Johnny Boudreaux, Ron Lyle, and Gordie Racette) were flat-out robberies, as were 2 of his "draws" (with Leon Spinks and Ken Norton).

Personal:
A born again Christian, Scott currently lives in Andover with his second wife and children.
Served on the National Board of Directors for the Make A Wish Foundation, and has been honorary chair of American Cancer Society. Also has own golf tournament -- The Scott Ledoux Long Haul Classic
Recently worked as a color commentator for ESPN's Friday Night Fights
