In recognition of his mediocre contribution to Minnesota sports MICKEY HATCHER is hereby inducted into the Minnesota Assembly of Mediocre Athletes Hall of Fame on this 29th day of February, 2000 With Mickey in the lineup, every fly ball hit to left field was an adventure. A slow-running outfielder with minimal power, Mickey's hustle and sense of humor nevertheless made him a fan favorite in his stint with the Twins. Apart from slamming his body into outfield walls, Mickey became known for being a solid contact hitter who excelled at advancing runners and helped the Twins move from a laughing-stock to a respectable mediocrity, just before their World Series run in 1987.

Highlights: Mickey's .284 average as a Twin ranks 8th all time. Was the toughest player in the AL to strike out in 1983 and 1985. In 1984 from Aug 6 through Sept 12, Mickey was 9-for-9 with 4 walks and 13 RBI with runners in scoring position. Mickey got honorable mention on the Twins' All-Time Team A career of quotes like this one: � For me, it's not about winning and losing. It's about The Monkey. � Mickey hit a home run in his first World Series at bat in 1988, and was nearly the series MVP. Lowlights: Limited power, slow footspeed, and an awkward fielder. Dropped Dave Kingman's famous "in the roof" pop fly the next day in a pre-game ceremony. Mediumlights: Mickey ran into every left field wall in the AL between 1981 and 1986. Personal: Real name is Michael Vaughn Hatcher Mickey started and ended his major league career with the Dogers.
