In recognition of his mediocre contribution to Minnesota sports

RICK DANMEIER

is hereby inducted into the

Minnesota Assembly of Mediocre Athletes Hall of Fame

on this 29th day of February, 2000

A benefactor of Bud Grant's stubborn distrust of "soccer style" kickers, Rick was able to survive for 5 years as the Vikings' placekicker despite a sub-40 yard range and mediocre (at best) accuracy. At a time when the Vikings began their slide from powerhouse to also-ran, it seemed nearly every week the game came down to a pressure kick from Rick, leaving Viking fans holding their breath. Although he kicked many game-winning field goals, fans couldn't help but focus on the many missed opportunities, making him a favorite scapegoat for the team's demise into mediocrity.
