AL NEWMANis hereby inducted into theMinnesota Assembly of Mediocre Athletes Hall of Fameon this 29th day of February, 1996"Big Al" was a light-hitting utility-man with capable defensive ability. Although he never hit a home run and struggled to hit his weight, Al found himself as a role player on both of the Twins' championship teams in the 1987 and 1991 seasons. Capable of hitting equally poorly from either side of the plate, Al's mundane but versatile abilities made him an asset to the Twins for five special seasons.

Highlights:
Al played on both the 1987 and 1991 Championship teams. Al led the Twins in stolen bases in 1989. In 1990, led American League second baseman in fielding (.993) and was named league's Best Utility Player in Toronto Star's manager's poll. Turned a key 1st-inning double-play against second-place Kansas City in the last home game of 1987, clinching a share of the division title for the Twins.
