HICKEY - Descendants of the ancient family of physicians, � hIcidhe, anglicized their surname as Hickey or Hickie. From their early homeland in Co. Clare the family spread into the neighbouring counties of Limerick to the south and Tipperary to the east and from there it was dispersed farther afield. (5)
