BROWN

BROWN is a nickname that would be given to the one who: wore brown clothing, had a brown disposition, had brown hair, or was suntanned.
It can also be a nickname for a big, bear-like man from the Old English brun, the bear, which gets its familiar name bruin because of its brown coat. (See Bruin below).
The word comes form the Old High German br¨ľn which can be traced back to the Sanskrit word babhrus referring to a colour. (9) page 110 & 111.
BRUIN is the Dutch equivalent of Brown. The idea that it means bear came about because of some Europeans call the bear a bruin due to its brown coat.
English storytellers picked up the word and it is now assumed to mean bear. (9) page 111.
