ALCOCK

Possibly a derivation of ACOCKS.
ACOCKSThis is a little difficult to classify. It could be a patronymic variation of Cock (see Cock) with the French preposition no longer separated as in A’Court.
It cannot be a similar derivation to A’Court as this means at Court
It could also be a variation of Alcock with the ‘l’ being left out after a bout of teasing at school.
This is guesswork, as William T.S. Noble in Names from Here and Far – The New Holland Dictionary of Names (2003) states he really has no idea.(9) page 43.

Researching: Anne Alcock b. Scoanton Morley Norfolk ENG
Arrived on the Morayshine , Sydney 26 Jan 1856.
