Malverne jumped out to an early 4-0 lead today with three consecutive hits by Nick B Bart T and Connor W. After James H was hit by yet another pitch, he stole second. The big blow in the inning was a triple to left by Chris R.
The 4 run lead disappeared in the bottom half of the inning as Merillion scored 5 times. Alex K did a great job pitching the first two innings. Alec reached base in the second and promptly stole second and third, but was stranded. Malverne trailed 7-4 after two innings of play.
The boys got back into the game after Anthony C legged out an infield hit and stole second. He was driven in by Alex K who has been on fire as of late. The hitting continued with Nick B getting a hit while driving in Alex K. Nick stole second, Bart T walked and both of them scored on Connor W�s line shot to rightfield. Leading 8-7 at this point, John B took over the pitching duties and recorded a 1-2-3 inning with some fine defensive help from Bart T and Nick B.
During their next at-bat Joe F singled to right, stole second and scored on a Chris R single to right. In the bottom of the third,John B worked his way out of a bases-loaded 1 out situation by getting a weak pop-up to third that was fielded by Matt S and then striking out the next batter!!! As if his defense wasn�t enough, Matt S picked his game up a notch by smashing a single to right in his next at-bat .
Merillion battled their way back and took 13-9 lead. Brendan V, Alex K, and Franklin loaded the bases with three quick hits to start the last inning. Nick B then knocked in a run hitting into a fielders choice. Bart T continued his hot hitting and smacked another hit driving in a couple more runs and ended up on second base, representing the tying run. Unfortunately, that is where he stayed as the Merillion pitcher was able to shut down the Malverne offense and close out the game.
