July 28
Another exciting game was played by the Malverne 9-10 year olds, and for the second time this year the game ended in a tie!!! Franklin had a single in the first inning, but was not able to score due to the Mineola defense.
Mineola scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Malverne answered in the second inning with Glen getting hit by a pitch and advancing to third on Alex Ks double to right. Chris R walked to load the bases. Trying to score on a wild pitch, Glen was cut down at the plate on a very close play. Alec followed with a walk, loading the bases with 2 outs. Nick B stepped to the plate and quickly deposited a single to left center, driving in a run. Bart then legged out an infield hit, pushing another run across, and tying the score at 2-2. Bart took the mound again in the second inning, and put down Mineola in order with three strikeouts. In the third inning Franklin singled (his second hit) and stole second. Connor W smoked a base hit to left pushing Franklin to third, but both runners were left stranded.
Joe F took over pitching duties in the third inning and registered a 1-2-3- inning by striking out the first two batters, and got the final out on  a SPECTACULAR play by Connor W at shortstop jumping as high as he could, and grabbing  a line-drive that would have been a double for sure. Malverne went down in order in 4th inning. Joe F pitched his second scoreless inning with defensive help from third baseman Nick B, taking care of a pop-up and a grounder. In the fifth inning, with Bart on first, John B grounded out to the first base side and Bart tried to make it all the way to third. After the throw got away from the third baseman, Bart got to his feet and headed for home, giving Malverne a 3-2 lead. Connor W took his turn on the mound in the fifth inning. The first batter reached first, but was quickly erased as he tried to steal and was nailed by Chris R. Mineola managed to score a run to bring the score to 3-3.
In the sixth inning, Connor dropped down a PERFECT bunt base-hit to start it off. He stole second and third but got no further as Mineola shut down Malverne. In the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and second, John B made a game saving play by pulling in a line drive at first base. From there Connor took control and put away the final batters. The teams agreed to play one extra inning. Nick B singled and stole second with two outs, but thats all Malverne could do. Glen took to the hill for the bottom of the seventh He started off with two quick strikeouts, but after a few walks, the bases were loaded. With no place to put the batter, Glen decided to send him back to the bench -  with a strikeout to end the game!!!

                                               Final Score 3-3
