Valley Stream Tops Malverne 8-5
July 25
Malverne and Valley Stream had an opening in their schedules and managed to get in a last minute, non-conference game. Glen C started the game with Patrick O behind the plate. Glen C struck out one batter in the inning and the other two batters only managed to hit weak shots to first baseman Nick B, who turned them into easy outs. Nick B led of the bottom of the inning with a walk, followed by a stolen base .He went to third on a base hit by Patrick O , and they both were driven in by a double by Glen C. Malverne had an early 2-0 lead. In the second inning Glen pitched his way out of a one out, second and third situation, keeping the lead intact. In the bottom of the second Matt S seemed to find his stroke again and laced a single to center. He stole second, but was stranded there. In the third inning Glen C again pitched out of a tight spot, getting three consecutive strikeouts with runners on second and third. Valley Stream took the lead in the following inning, but the boys battled back. Patrick O barely beat out an infield hit, and then stole second. Glen C delivered again with an RBI single. The hits continued as Brendan V crushed a double down the rightfield line knocking in a run. Nick B then came on to pitch the final two innings. Valley Stream pushed a few runs across the plate late in the game, but it could have been worse without defensive help from Billy M (called up late this afternoon from the Farm Division) at shortstop making a good play on a hard hit ball, and Patrick O, throwing out a runner at the plate from deep rightfield with Joe F applying the tag!!!. Malverne never gave up. In the fifth, Alex K walked with two out, stole second and scored on a line shot base hit by John B, who scampered into second on the throw to the plate. In the bottom of the sixth inning after Joe F smashed a double into the right centerfield gap. With two outs, Malverne managed to load the bases and get the winning run to the plate. Valley Stream would not give in, and managed to get the final out and take the game 8-5. Photos Below
