| By Anthony Troiano Staff Writer Franklin started the game and pitched two scoreless innings. There were nice defensive plays by Connor at second in the first inning and by Alec D shagging down a fly ball in the second inning. Franklin recorded 3 strikeouts in two innings. In the bottom of the first Bart hustled out an infield single, but good defense by Mineola kept Malverne scoreless through the first two with only one Malverne hit. Mineola broke out with five runs in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning with two outs John B and Pat put together a couple of hits, but Malverne couldn�t bring the runs home. Mineola added two more in the top of the fourth and Malverne came back in the bottom half with two runs of their own. Anthony singled hard to right, Liam bunted for a base hit, and Alex K got an RBI single. Liam later scored on a passed ball. The inning ended at 7 to 2. Anthony pitched well, but Mineola put five more runs on the board in the final two innings. Malverne got runners on base again in the bottom of the fifth with walks by Matt and John B, but Malverne failed to score. It got exciting in the bottom of the sixth with a two out rally. Malverne put together back to back doubles by Bart and Connor, Then Alex K got his second RBI single of the night, but it wasn�t enough to overcome the strong performance by Mineola. Malverne came up short tonight on strong pitching and solid defense by Mineola. As John Wolf would say, Malverne left to many ducks in the pond tonight.... Final Score 12-4 Photos Below |
