Well heres where the honesty has to start ALL ENTRIES from June to now ive
just typed in , as ive had Mega problems with my server! and no way to get
into the editor required to update the page. Suffice to say thanks for you
patience and im told from a reliable source that this problem wont happen
again. Well we'll wait and see wont we. Thanks for your patience in this as i
know there are good people out there that read this, and you know who you are
and you make it all worth while to keep on with this . Thank You .....
Weve been gettin good feedback from people with regard our last album Shifting
Sands and im thankful for those comments. Very constructive even in some
points of critisicm from people in other bands etc. Weve never pushed
ourselves to be perfect and theres always something to learn anew. Hopin now
to get a run of gigs sorted for the New Year and maybe target Folk Clubs etc
with a more Acoustic / Folk type set of songs for a slightly more laid back
few gigs. be a nice change me thinks.
Once again thank you for you Support ! from all corners of the globe.

STEVES Birthday, and im sworn to secrecy not to mention how old my lil brother
is on his 37th year of existance so i wont !! suffice to say he's always the
younger brother. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! and he celebratees this milestone by ripping
his house apart ...Kitchen, garden, bathroom ... glad im past all that.

As you can see not too much time for music except for the craich in various
Music outposts in Ireland (pubs) :D. Some fantastic musicians playing for the
hell of it as we went round the place literally Belfast to Belfast right
around the coast Anti Clockwise. Trully inspitational Country. Loved it !!
as Arnie Shwarz would say ...."I'll be back " ....

NEW CD .... EARLY DAYS IN SELLING THE THING BUT HAS BEEN RECEIVED WELL BY THE
FOLKS WHO HAVE BOUGHT IT. THE AMAZING THING IS THOUGH EVERYONE I TALK TOO HAS A
DIFFERENT FAVOURITE TRACK WHICH IS STRANGE. ON ONE HAND, DEPENDING ON WHICH
WAY YOU LOOK AT IT IT COULD MEAN ALL TRACKS ARE FAIRLY BLAND ?. EITHER THAT OR
ALL TRACKS ARE STRONG ?. OR EVEN THAT THERE IS A MUCH DIVERSE SET OF SONGS ON
THE ALBUM. I HOPE ITS THE LATTER 2 REASONS. TIME WILL TELL !!
GIGS .... BEEN DOIN A FEW GIGS WITH THE NEW LIGHT WEIGHT MALT LINE UP OF MYSELF
AND MARTIN "BALLY" BALLANTINE ON GUITAR. THE GIGS HAVE GONE VERY WELL AND HAVE
ALAID FEARS THAT WE COULDNT CUT THE ICE WITHOUT STEVE. OF COURSE HES MISSED
AND THE SOUND IS MUCH MORE RELAXED AND A LIL LESS AGGRESSIVE ( UNTIL BALLY HAS
HAD A BEER OR 2 THAT IS )BUT ITS WON US A FEW EXTRA GIGS FROM THE CROWD.

NEW CD : SHIFTING SANDS available NOW ! ! !
Yes folks its true its finally all come together and done and dusted ....
NEW CD : Shifting Sands is the name of the new CD. Features 11 songs as
reported earlier. *8 new songs and 3 covers. See Merchandise page for
details.....
GIGS .... Martin and myself are currently rehearsing for a two man show. Which
looks like its goin to be very simple acoustically and to be honest is nice for
a change. Less things to go wrong ( who said that ). Our first tester Gig to
check the reaction to this will be late April. If all goes well then we will be
actively seekin further gigs.... somewhere sometime somehow but soon....
Well thats it for now ...further news as and when ..take care now

LETS CUT STRAIGHT TO THE BREAKING NEWS....
12 YEAR MALT LINE UP ......Steve has been brave and has told us that he
requires timeout from gigging for at least a year. The reasons for this once we
got over the initial seconds of suprise was understanding why. Not goin to much
into his personal life on here but hes took on board in December a new business
venture which he has commited himself too financially (his own business)which he
needs to put all his energies into. This being, he therefore finds little time
for his family. This is further compounded, when we start tellin him of gigs all
over the place which he finds hard to relax and enjoy, knowin hes missin family
time. Not only this but hes moving house also. All i can say as Big Bruv is,
that hes said and done the right thing! and he shouldnt worry bout anythin more
than his family, maybe in the future we all get to play on stage again, lets
hope its soon as that will signal him settlin in to his new planned life.
GOOD LUCK TO HIM ....Steve will however continue to input his talents as we will
still be gettin together to Jam and colaborate on new material. He also has the
job of bein our Engineer as he has the Gear !! and hes the man whos puttin what
time he has into gettin this CD finished ( told you he was busy !! )
Martin and myself are goin to use some of the MAlt material coupled with some
different type of covers ( still folk/blues ) but more suitable type of thing
for ONE guitar. therefore we are lookin to continue waving the Bands Flag and
keep the Band Wagon moving , so we aint dead in the water yet, we will get
some practise sessions in soon and let you know if it works out in ?? April ok

December) Its starting to take shape and some songs are now nearing completion
.(that sounds familiar)
Have to say its lookin like its gettin there now .. possibly 11 songs, lookin
likely to be 3 cover songs and 8 new self penned MALT Songs, 9 of which are
complete and now workin to get the other 2 done As soon as possible....Fingers
crossed this will all be finished son and that we can announce a NEW FINISHED
PIECE OF MUSIC HISTORY ! ..watch this space ( this is though however depending
on Steve Home move as his old house had the studio ) maybe the last 2 tracks
makes for a MAY release ....I know not to get to excited about dates for this
CD but its nearly there..
GIGS .... To all of you out there who have listened to us , supported us ,
bought the music, etc etc ..BIG BIG thank you..

HAVE TO ADMIT MISSING THIS MONTH ...mainly due to returnin to full time work
and the ill health of my wife , time just slips throughmy fingers. hope to get
on top of this soon

above ...just dont tell them about each other ( ha ha )
Seriously though Hug a freind today ...thats my MOTTO as these are the people
that make you want to keep upgrading this type of web page they give you the
motivation and the kick up the backside to show they read this stuff...

January, another year some would say, but to me a Year of Possibilities ......
Maybe just maybe we get some fresh material finished for the long long long
long long long drawn out affair that is a NEW CD ?? who knows? ...
NEW CD .... Well like i said last month ... (that bit seems familiar from
December) Its starting to take shape and some songs are now nearing completion
(that sounds familiar) HALF THE STUFF DONE (Hooraa)headin in the right
direction and is startin to look as though we WILL get this thing done .....
finsih line not quite in sight but ive heard rumours its straight ahead......
GIGS .... well only a few outlyin gigs splattered here and there , but mostly
private functions to speak of such as weddings etc so no point listing
them ....all gigs off until we finish this CD thing....

December here again !! where does the time go ......
Well lets cut straght to the chase as im sure like me you aint got time to hang
about. So heres the news...
NEW CD .... Well like i said last month Its starting to take shape and some
songs are now nearing completion. it may sound EPIC in size this project but
you have to realise we can only ever get together for 3-4 hours a week. Yes
you read it correct 3-4 hours a WEEK ! so you can imagine its takes a little
time to get this laid down to the high level weve set ourselves. Ideas are
acted upon sometimes on the spur of the moment. To see Steve and Martin having
to share a microphone while Steve was singing the backin vocal to WAS IT YOU OR
It was something to behold when he was singing gazin into Martins eyes "was it
you or i ... who kept on walkin bye ... past the avenues that would have
brought ... me to you " We rolled around laughin and thought we better change
things ...my idea of puttin Martin into a short dress didnt go down well !!!
(it would look long on him ! ) But the main thing is we want to go into the
new year armed with some new material of a very high standard to be proud of
that i think is well on its way and only time will tell if you out there like
what weve been up to.....
GIGS .... Have some offers pencilled in for February and looks to be our best
start for a wee while to a year. usually were very slow out of the blocks, but
were gettin it together off the stage now. Things look good or is it martin
needing the pocket money to buy another instrument (what was it again ?? a
Lute / Mandola / Baloulika ) changes week to week LOL... but if its the
motovation we need to get our ass into gear then great. SO the fianl word on
this ...BOOKINGS TAKEN NOW !! for SPRING and SUMMER (weekends only)
on behalf of 12 YEAR MALT..

Well thanks to the brave souls who have owned up to the fact they enjoy the
band and actually read this Page of updates. makes the job easier to know im
not goin insane thinkin i type to myself LOL.
Anyway enough self congratulation and more info ......
NEW CD...as i said in July the new Cd would be in the pipeline...well its in
the pipeline and tracks are slowly arriving out of it. Maybe even a third of
the way through it and full steam ahed to finish . just dont ask when , but we
arent doin anymore bookins till its done and dusted. The Live CD we did for
begining of the year has had to be shelved as the recordings on some were lets
just say comprimised by a bloody (out of tune ) tuner. Some of these recordings
are still saveable but will take time to establish whats useable and not and
maybe have the odd track appear on some future release. but we want to keep
the concept of a full LIVE CD givin a full 120 minute performance for you to
buy and take home and spread the word.......
DATES.....none as we go to press but looking for bookings early next year once
CD all done.....

Last few gigs of the year comin up before we concentrate on gettin ourselves
sorted out with a much delayed set of new songs and maybe live stuff. last
enterprise was a complete nightmare with recording problems and various things
goin wrong and at this point has been shelved and maybe we go back and look at
the material at a later stage when we have a lil time and release some of the
stuff .
Finding it a little hard work to keep motivated sometimes to type our latest
news when i seem to be goin around in circles. maybe i should just keep it much
more brief in future ? or does anyone give a damn at all ? does anyone read

Little Bruvs Birthday this month 18 x 2 LOL . Well one things for sure he'll
never catch me up and so he will have to get used to that tag of either of the
following Geordie terms : Kidda, Young Un, or Little un. But they are all
terms of affection (so its reputed). Martin just moved house and has had all
the usual problems (like not being able to fit his furniture into the house
either through door or windows) so please !! dont make fun of the man. ha ha
A band first this month also. playing at an England Cricket venue at Chester
Le Street Durham. Lookin forward to that, and seein the newly weds, whome we
are playin for .

Another month rolls along in and makes us wonder where the hel the year
went ?? Well im damned if know. Is everyone sure there isnt the odd month that
sneaks by using only 6 0r 9 days at its disposale because they go so bloody
quickly sont they. maybe i should get the Calender Police involved and see what
they come up with. Well we goin to Florida for a week, Steve off to France and
Gay Parriey (paris) and Martin hes away swinging on a Rope somewhere in
Scotland or the lakes. So not much in our books for this month . time to
recharge the batteries. so see you next month .

WELL ITS A PLEASENT SUPRISE TO FIND THE WEB SITE FILE MANAGER STILL HERE AND UP
AND RUNNING FOR A CHANGE. YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE THE TIMES IVE TRIED TO GET ON
AND NOTHIN !! BUT SUCH IS LIFE. HERE WE ARE IN JULY THE MONTH THAT MARKS THE
HALFWAY POINT IN THE YEAR. WELL LETS HOPE THE SECOND HALF BEARS MORE FRUIT THAN
THE FIRST.
UPDATING YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MARCH I THINK ? AND THE SAD THING IS THAT
WE HAVE LITTLE TO REPORT APART FROM A FEW LITTLE INCIDENTS Ha Ha.
HAD A NEAR ESCAPE FROM PLAYING A GIG (SOMEWHERE IN A TOWN IN ENGLAND) AS THE
LADS TURNED UP TO FIND IT THE ONLY BUILDING STANDING IN A SCENE FROM A BAD
NIGHTMARE (Smashed glass in the car park, surrounding a car with one wheel left
(flat) no windscreen etc etc) FOR THE FIRST TIME WE CONTEMPLATED PACKING THIS
BAND THING IN AS WE DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE THE CARS OUTSIDE OR THE GEAR INSIDE.
SO WE DID WHAT WE HAD TO DO. WE DID A RUNNER, OTHERWISE WED NOT BE HERE TODAY
SO THE RIGHT DESICION WAS MADE. (THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!) WHICH KNACKER SAID
THAT HES NEVER BEEN THAT PLACE THATS FOR SURE LOL, AND ITS HARD TO DO A GIG
WEARING BULLET PROOF VESTS AND A RIOT SHIELD.
IVE BEEN HONOURED ALSO. TO BE BEST MAN AT PHIL AND KARENS WEDDING, IN FEBRUARY
NEXT YEAR. HE HAS ALSO ASKED THE BAND TO PLAY AND NO DOUBT WE WILL HAVE TO BE
ON OUR BEST BEHAVIOUR (NO SWEARING ETC WHEN THINGS GO WRONG) BUT WE CAN ALWAYS
BLAME THE SOUND ENGINEER (PHIL). CANT LOSE THAT WAY CAN YOU Ha Ha .
CD NEWS : WELL ALL I CAN SAY IS ITS NOT TOO FAR AWAY AND AVAILABLE VERY VERY
SOON. IM SURE THAT WILL COME AS GOOD NEWS TO THE HUNDREDS ( THREE) OF YOU WHO
HAVE INQUIRED ABOUT IT. END OF JULY WILL SEE US ALSO START ON OUR LONG AWAITED
STUDIO CD. DID I SAY LONG AWAITED? I THINK ITS MORE LIKE THE LONG LONG LONG
LONG AWAITED CD. WE HAD HOPED IT BE OUT NOW BUT ...........YOU KNOW THE
SCORE......AS THE DAYS AND WEEKS GO BY THOUGH MORE AND MORE MATERIAL GETTIN
WROTE AND MAYBE HAVE SONGS LEFT OVER TO KICK START ANOTHER WHENEVER THAT
OCCURS. BUT WE GO FOR WHAT WE CONCIDER THE BEST OF THE BUNCH AND LET YOU
DECIDE. THAT BE READY THIS YEAR I HOPE (SHOULD BE ) BUT NO PROMISES EVER
AGAIN ..
A YEAR HAS FLOWN PAST SINCE WE SET THIS WEB PAGE UP AND SO WE CELEBRATE OUR

LIVE CD ~ OK here it is ! A PROMISE that the LIVE CD entitled "HERE & THERE"
will be available very very soon .. so please check the merchandise page
sometime mid March where i will update you all as to the exact date etc. The
publishing difficulties have now been sorted and a front cover agreed on. The
final track listings sorted and now just need the CDS pressed. The LIVE
project consists of 2 CDs, 25 songs, and over 2 Hours play time. I hope its
been worth the wait.
PICS ~ as i said last month these will be sorted once LIVE album out the way.
CONGRATULATIONS are in order to Phil (Hare) & Karen on their Engagement. Phil
who has done various things for the band, humped gear (the light stuff),
helped in the early days with sound (Hare's have good ears), and recently
become the Gig Cameraman. Hes supported the band through Thin & Thin and has
to our knowledge never shirked from gettin the pints in at the gigs (as long as
you give him the money). Hope you find long lasting happiness together and that
Karen finds a way of opening your wallet as wide as your heart!!

LIVE CD ~ We have still to overcome the publishing problems weve had for
the past month or so. This though WILL BE RESOLVED one way or another, looks as
if we are going to have to do our own publishing for this one. The concept of
the cover was done on a home PC and everytime i send the artwork to a
publisher it corrupts some how ? or so they say ? i think the problem is they
give a price for publishing then see what we want and then think oooh my
god !!! and make up an excuse. So . . to finally put the lid on the LIVE CD we
should have something concrete in our hands at the beginning of March. Its
only when you write about something for 6 MONTHS promising this and that
release date that suddenly realise it was a bad move. But were honest if
nothin else ...
STUDIO ALBUM ~ In the throws of gettin a few tracks laid down for the new CD
right now. This is our first attempt at using our own STUDIO (Steves Loft)
Therefore giving us a bit of a learning curve but hopefully a hands on
approach will mean we get closer to what we want on the final mix.
RELEASE DATE will be ... YEAH you think im goin through all that again, !!!
lets just say sometime this year.
NEW PICS ~ I promised new pics last month ! Had to much to sort out with the
LIVE CD so maybe get these up once we get the LIVE CD finished ok . .

OK here i am typing this entry on the 23rd of the Month ....yes yes its
late i know i know ....but here i am once again to enlighten you as to the
latest in all things MALT. Well where do we start..the beginning i hear
someone say :) well here we go.
# The Live CD ~
From last years "Here and There Tour" 2001 is coming on well and soon to be
sorted once and for all, the recordings are taken from a cross section of
gigs we played and have ammassed it in such a way as you get a full concert on
2 CDs . The set played on that tour made up from the best recordings of each
song ( so you get the best we can offer ) CD1 = first half of Gig & CD2 =
Second half of Gig plus Bonus Encores. The recording is also done in such a way
that you hear the band live straight from the mixing desk but no audience as
these didnt record to well at some gigs and so we decided to do it as LIVE and
PERSONAL as if playing just to you !! Maybe when we do eventually get sorted
with Live Recording techniques of the Audience we can capture you all. but i
promise to tell you when we are recording ok. We are now in the process of
finalising the CD and its GIG contents and running order and we should have
this CD available maybe Mid-Feb (only 3 month late)
# The Studio CD ~
The songs have been wrote and we are in the middle of rehearsing them to try
get this CD done before our Summer Gigs. The CD will have some songs weve been
playing live includng "Flower Girl","Was it You or I" "Busking Song",
"Sailing Down the River" & "UnReckognised". these are complimented by new
Material wrote in the last few month.
# New Pics ~
The arrival of some past gigs thanks to the Bands part time Musical Ear and now
Pic Taker (Hare) thanks to him. As it must be a struggle to take pics of us 3
( The Good the Bad and the Ugly) Can you name whose who ?? Answers by Email LOL
Well last thing for me to say on behalf of the band is hope you all have a
HAPPY PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR and that we may meet again on the road somewhere this
year.

page particularly. I have to admit having some problems with this Coal Powered
PC i own and ended up gettin very frustrated and leaving it as i was very very

Well winter is upon us yet again, comes round very fast as you get older !!
But i love the winter, crystal clear skies and when out walking a new found
space where once was another 5 people jockying for position. Winter is a time
to find peace and quite, to find yourself that space and use it to re-charge
the batteries ready for the hectic New Year. Im off to the Lake Distrist with a
bunch of reprobates that call themselves walkers ?? did i say walkers ? anyway
their a cracking bunch of lads that meet up every year and swap stories and news
of the year gone by. To ease this along of course you got to have the ODD beer
havent you, thats never the problem getting the ODD beer down your neck. The
problem is of course the evil drink tryin to get EVEN with you in the morning.
And it does !!!! by god it does !!
Getting back to the band, well the recordings of the last few months gigs
have gone well and we had hoped to get this all put onto Cd in some form for
December but another gig has come along unsuspected like.
Backing a Folk Legend that is : Martin Carthy on the 30th November
@ Whitburn, Tyne & Wear. Something you just cant turn down.
but once weve done rehearsing for that and have done the gig all eyes turn to
getting this Live CD up and running before the year is out and who knows maybe
just maybe ready for Xmas. So please watch this space as i will obviously let
everyone know of developments. So thank you everybody who came down to see us
during our "Here and There Tour" this Autumn. What we do is all about enjoying
the music and the freindships weve made along the way shows that LIVE music
beats the pants of a jukebox END OF STORY .

OCTOBER 2001
Hi Folks,
is it that time of the year again 10 - 11 weeks to Xmas. "Doesnt time fly when
your having fun" is the generally excepted saying in theses parts. But i think
it should be replaced by "Doesnt time fly when you havent any". On the subject
of time flying then i have to say Happy Birthday to Lil Bruv Steve who was
another year older in September. His age you ask ? well lets just say i have a
sneaking suspicion that hes started to use Hair colouring, or hes just damn
lucky. Unlike the rest of us poor mortals. Mind i suppose id look a bit of an
idiot (ok some think i do now ) if i used hair coloring on my head as my beard
has certainly gone into what can only be described as "Winter Plumage" vast
array of colours. Where do all these colours come from ? anyone got answers.
Final legs of our "Here and There" tour coming up this month, then straight
into the Studio (Steves converted Loft) and get down to business with regard
material for New CD.
Few songs been jostling for position lately, to be included in what we see
as a progression on our first Recording. Im sure though its going to be a
belter as i know the standard of some of the stuff that i think will miss out.
But youll have to watch this space :) .... im gettin excited as we get toward
having a new fresh recording in our Mits. As well as being able to share our
songs with all you folks out there.

SEPTEMBER 2001
This month starts off with a big thank you to everyone looking in on our
Web Site as its getting some good hits even though its only been up and running
for 2 month.
We appreciate you keep spreading the word about the band and though its
always a slow process i beleive were getting there.
A few teething problems recording LIVE turned up on our last gig, mainly
because i forgot to start the recording !!! until i realised half way through
the set LOL but we at least got some good second half material. Live gigs have
become very popular and its nice to see familiar faces in the audience coming
back for more, must be doing something right :)
August also announced the arrival of some new self penned songs from the
three of us which is always nice. As sometimes you can go ages without
something coming into your head . So to hear 3 new songs is great, as i love to
hear them first time around. generally its a good buzz when you think WOW thats
a corker of a song and then in a years time when youve been playin it so long
thinking God its changed so much, from that early (idea) version. Which is
amazing, for when you bring something to the band that you think is a fairly
finished piece of music. Then you sit and watch it evolve.
Nough of me ramblin on.......
AUGUST 2001
Web Site now running a Wee bit better, but still some teething problems to
overcome after some hellish problems. This mainly due to the fact we decided to
take a crash course in HTML code (Hyroglyphics for the PC).
Slowly getting to grips with the way it works, but any advice welcome.
Inserting an Email page has proved a bit more of a sticky problem. Anyone
with a solution please Email us ( YES YES we know it dont work properly yet but
at least it does give you the address even if you do have to fill the form in
again LOL - sorry :)....)
Feedback so far toward the WebSite has been encouraging, and many things
been sorted out or added too through your input. Working as we speak to a
Lyrics page containing brief notes as to the songs concept (if any) by the
Lyricist concerned.
Memory difficulties means a few things have had to wait until we can
get to grips with our limited abilities. Things like sound maybe difficult
to administer right now, because of the limitations. Obviously this being
a band/music site, it would certainly help if we could find a music system
that ran on our our "YE OLDE WORLDE COAL POWERED PC" (Windows 95). Again
anyone out there that can help (free), please dont be shy.
Hoping to make a brief outdoor appearence at the Rothbury Festival. The
band were forced to leave the Guitars etc in the Battle Wagon and drink
indoors due to heavy rain. As you can imagine it wasnt easy !! ( not half -
but a great afternoon - Hic Hic ).
The Yacht club event was an excellent evening once again and hopefully to
become a regular feature for the band each year. Regatta day proving once
again like Rothbury earlier in the day cold, damp, miserable (they know how
to pick the days these organisers, same as last year). Unplugging the Bands
gear the following day proving what must have been the years hottest day
(cant win them all).
On that note of cant win them all !
Can the Band congratulate Kami Marshall & Helen Scott two of the Yacht Clubs
members. Gaining a Second place in Greece, the week after the band had played
for you .....Well Done !! Must be the effect the band had on them.
JULY 2001
The band have been asked back to the South Shields Yacht Club on the 14th
JULY to play at their Regatta evening. This is a very popular race event
organised by the Tyneside Sailing Club with people racing from all over
the country. A great time last year was had by all and this year will be
just as popular. The weather, last year, I seem to recall wasnt great for
racing, can you beleive it there was too much wind ??.
Many people have asked with regard a "LIVE" CD ? well weve got the
technology now and hopefully we can get some good recordings laid down
on our up and coming "Here and There" Tour. So watch this space.
Likely date for our new Studio Album looking ever more like Spring 2002
