You are looking at undisputedly the best high school in SL for many many years. The name of this prestigeous high school is ROYAL COLLEGE. Although the name might sound high and mighty there's nothing 'high & mighty' about the kids who go there. Amost all of 'em are pretty down to earth people. Located in the heart of richest heighbourhood in Colombo, it's the second biggest school in terms of student population. Estimated number of students is about 6,500. This school doesn't discriminate on the basis Religion or Race. This was built in 1835, by the British (who were later kicked out !). The first principal was Rev. Joseph Marsh. Although this school was restriced to high class, rich people's kids in early days these days pretty much anyone can get it in, if you are smart enough & definitely lucky enough. It has over the years it produced some of the greatest sons in the history of Sri Lanka, who have done a great deal of work for the country. Kids from this distinguish educational institution top GCE A/L (Similar to high school graduation) results each year for many years now, thus gaining lots of respect & popularity from a wide cross section of Sri Lankan population. RC is also well known for it's dedicated & devoted teachers who make this academic excellence, a reality.
RC is not only known for it's Academic acievements but also for Sports. Though in the recent years their CRICKET TEAM has not been as good as they would have liked, their RUGBY team has been in the thick of action, performing really well. Apart from those they have Tennis, Track & Field, Soccer, Boxing, Basek Ball, Hockey, Volly Ball, Table tennis, lots of varieties of martial arts & many many other sports.
