Richard Allen, Sr., applied for revolutionary pension in Wilkes County, North Carolina September 4, 1832. He was born 22 November, 1741 in Baltimore, Maryland. When he was twenty one years of age he moved to Frederick County, Virginia, where he lived for seven years. He moved to Rowan County, now Wilkes County, North Carolina September 1770. In October or November, 1775 he entered the service as a volunteer in Captain Jesse Walton's Company, the first unit which was raised in the County. He was promoted to ensign and then to Captain.
