Need help with the Roger family from Mississippi.
Joseph Rogers was born 6 April, 1813 in South Carolina and died 9 June, 1893 in Jackson Co. MS., he is buried in Zion Cemetery in Escatawpa, MS.
From some early family records it is believed Joseph's mother maiden name was Duitt.
Joseph first married in AL. and had one daughter, Elsie who married Otto Eckhoff and died in childbirth. Joseph came to Jackson Co. from Peachtree, AL.
He married second to Elizabeth Vice born 1842 AL. Her mother was Elizabeth White and supposedly a first cousin to General Robert E. Lee. I have not researched this statement and may not be correct.
Joseph and Elizabeth were the parents of at least nine children:
1. Lewis Lee Rogers born 26 January, 1865 Peachtree, AL. married Minervia C. Holland
2. Alice Rebecca Rogers, born 17 April, 1866; died 25 August, 1950
3. Mary Jane Rogers, born 13 April, 1867; married Thomas Jefferson Frye.
4. James L. Rogers, born 8 June, 1871; died 16 February, 1941; buried Ferrell Cemetery. Married Edwina Williams Green.
5. Idella Rogers born March 1873 married Thomas Allen
6. Caldonia Rogers born June 1874 married Sam Furby. Caldonia died during the depression in Grand Bay, AL.
7. Joseph E. Rogers, born 30 August,1875; died 25 November, 1957. He married Nettie F. Mizelle 1885-1957
8. Judson Rogers, born 22 August, 1878 MS., married Ollie Williams, sister to Edwins, daughters of James Williams
9. Barnett Rogers, born 1883 Escatawpa, MS., married Bessie Eure
