The will of William Allen in Warren County, Mississippi

In the Name of God Amen I, William Allen, of the County of Warren and State of Mississippi, having grown old and infirm and considering the uncertainty of this mortal life being sound in mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following

First: I resign my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God hoping and believing in the remission of sins by the merits and mediation of our Savior Jesus Christ, and my body I commit to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named. And my worldly estate I give and bequeath and desire as follows.

I design that all my just and lawful debts be paid at the time and place they may become due according to contract.

Secondly I give, bequeath, and desire unto my beloved wife Rhoda Allen, possession of all my property both real and personal to have during her natural life and any property that not be of use to her on the plantation I wish to be sold and credit of twelve months. And all money that she may not want for use, I wish to be put follows.

Namely to my son Joseph Allen, I give and bequeath my negro woman Priscilla and whatever children she may now or hereafter and to his heirs after him.

2nd To my daughter Nancy Bowls, I give and bequeath my negro woman Polly and whatever children she may have now or hereafter and to the heirs of her body and also two hundred dollars.

To my son William Allen, I give and bequeath one thousand dollars to be paid out of my monies that I have.

To my son Thomas Allen, I give and bequeath my negro man Lewis and to his heirs.

To my youngest son Johnson Allen, I given and bequeath my negro woman Eve and all her children be the same more or less and to his heirs.

To the wife of my deceased son John Allen viz. Sally Allen I give and bequeath my negro by Guilford and at her death the same to descend to the heirs of the body of John Allen.

To the children of my daughter Linny Price I give and bequeath my negro man Tandy and two hundred dollars.

To the wife of my son Terril Allen I give and bequeath my negro man Lenn and to her children by Terrel Allen.

At the death of my wife Rhoda Allen, I want the three eighths of land on which I now live sold on one and two years credit and also all the property that I may have which is not otherwise willed. I further will if any of the property which I have willed should die at the division of my Estate, a valuation equal to the loss should be paid of the money that may be on hand and also after all expenses are paid, I wish the balance of the money to be equally divided between Joseph Allen, Nancy Bowls, William Allen, Thomas Allen, Johnson Allen, and also a proportional part to John Allen's children.

For the Execution of this my last will and testament, I appoint my trusty friends Levi Stephens & John Harris my lawful executors who have promised me to execute the same according to the true meaning and intention thereof and I do hereby declare that my executors shall satisfy themselves for the trouble and expenses in executing this will out of any monies belonging to my Estate (hereby revoking all other wills by me personally made). In witness hereof, I set my hand and seal this fifth day of August 1836.
