Match Report - Round 3
vs Griffith Black & Whites
Group 20
What was programmed as the Match of the Round was gone for the Mallee Men by half time when Griffith led by 48/0. With a bitterly cold wind blowing straight down the ground and Griffith running with the wind at their backs, West Wyalong made too many mistakes, handing over possession at crucial stages. West Wyalong managed to put pressure on the Black & Whites line on several occasions, but lost ball meant no conversion to points.

The second half was a different story, the boys outplaying Black & Whites 24/22, but Griffith were not to be denied, Mope Railo running in 3 of his 4 tries in this half. The boys put pressure on Griffith throughout this half with good defence, not giving up as some teams might. Although the scoreline is not pretty, there were some positives for Ryan Prevett to work on this week, but it seems the big one will be commitment & enthusiasm, certainly gone from last year, at this stage.

With an increase in C & E by all, the boys will win more than they lose this year, ensuring a spot in the play offs, a season result that was not common in past years. Do not forget, in season 2002, we only won 10 games in the round series. Finals are a new competition !!!

The Under 16s again produced a good disciplined and controlled game to run out comfortable winners, showing a good blend of skill from the second year players, and enthusiasm from the new boys. Webbie has the boys firing, running 2nd to Waratahs who again are the stand outs, after 3 rounds scoring 244 points for and only 4 against.
