| Match Report - Round 12 vs Griffith Black & Whites |
| Group 20 |
| Captain-Coach Ryan Prevett was not too excited after West Wyalong defeated Griffith Black & Whites 44/28 on Sunday. They were missing a couple of important players in Jason Austin & Simon Bonetti, and the game was a lot closer than you would think he said. The Mallee Men dominated the first half scoring early and going into the break ahead 28/12. The boys scored first in the second half, but Black & Whites began to fight back, closing to within 4 points at 32/28 with plenty of time still on the clock. Just as it looked like a nail biting finish West Wyalong stepped up a gear and posted a further 2 tries to shut the visitors out. I could not pin point anyone today, it was a great team effort and everyone dug deep said Prevett after the match. Defence again was the key to our win he added. With the top five evenly poised with West Wyalong just 2 points shy of equal second placed Leeton & Yanco (both had second byes), next weeks game against TLU at Lake Cargelligo will be vital with both Leeton & Yanco expected to win against DPC & Waratahs respectively. A win next week will make the Yanco game on 25 July a blockbuster at Ron Crowe Oval, with a chance for the Mallee Men to move into third and a sneek look at the double chance in the finals. Not a bad result to date after a horror start to the season.
