| Character background of Dawn Willow. Dawn was born in Boston in 1973, the single child of two hardworking parents, determined to give their child a better future and a chance to go to college. Dawn was an average American girl and she was a happy child even though her parents seldom spent much time with her due to their work. Dawn simply accepted things the way they were and she spent a lot of time playing with the other kids that lived in the neighbourhood. When Dawn turned six she was sent to school. Dawn was more intelligent than the average kid, but she never cared enough about school to get more than average or less than average grades. This troubled her hardworking parents and for several years she was sent to summer school to improve her grades but this never worked for Dawn. She was much busier taking long walks along the beach or teaming up with some of the other dropouts and making trouble. This made her parents even more troubled and as time went by and Dawn became a teenager she and her parents were more or less always in a fight. At age fifteen Dawn left home and school never to return. She settled with some of the other malcontent youngsters and was soon to be found everywhere there was trouble. More than one time her parents sought her out and tried to convince her to go with them back home, but Dawn refused and her parents soon gave up on her. In 1989, just as the Berlin wall crumbled in Europe, Dawn met the man who was to become her Sire. His name was Andreas and Dawn never liked him from the start. He was always rambling on about the end of the world and how important it was to see the world behind all the lies upon lies that the American government told the people. Dawn was convinced that he belonged in an asylum and she wasn�t quite wrong. Sadly Andreas had taken an interest in Dawn and on a cold December evening he Embraced her in an alleyway. At first Dawn was horrified at thought of what Andreas had done to her, but her horror was soon turned to anger and she turned that anger on Andreas who only looked at her with disgust. He could feel that something had gone wrong with this Childe. Her mind hadn�t fractured and she still didn�t believe him at all. Most other Malkavians would have abandoned such a failure on the spot, but Andreas decided to instead make an experiment out of her. For several months he tortured her, taunted her, humiliated her and even tried to kill her a couple of times before her mind finally shattered in her attempt to protect herself from the horrors she had endured. The result was devastating both to Dawn and to Andreas. In her attempt to protect herself, Dawn had cut herself off from her emotions and no matter how hard she tried she was no longer capable of feeling anything. When Andreas, her tormentor, spoke to her she felt nothing. No hate, no anger, no sadness. It was like a black hole had taken up the space where her emotions used to be and only the memory was left. When Andreas looked into her cold, dead, emotionless eyes he felt fear for the first time since his own Embrace and before the night was over he had abandoned Dawn at a subway station. From that night Dawn has lived her own life and travelled over the most of the United States, staying at one place for as long as she fancies and then moving on to a new city. Despite her lack of emotions Dawn never kills thoughtlessly or shows cruelty to anyone. She even attempts to fake emotion when she is among other Kindred as she knows how disturbing other people finds her when they see how cold and dead she really is. While her feelings are dead she still seeks out company to keep in touch with the real world and if her companions can accept her lack of emotions she can be a decent person to be with.
