This is my daily driver and beater. It has 94K miles on it and is mostly stock. It has factory T-tops (the original GM T-top bags were in the trunk too) and a gray interior with bucket seats. In the fall of 2001, I bought it from a guy who knew nothing about auto repair. He owned the car for about a year and during that time he put a new paint job on it and then blew up the original L69 motor. He paid to have someone transplant in a 1987, 60K mile 305 from a third-gen F-body and now wanted to get rid of his money pit by selling it quick and cutting his losses. I was very willing to accommodate. It ran like crap when I test drove it. Several vacuum lines were disconnected or plugged in backwards. The MC solenoid and the TPS were unplugged and the distributor cap had a hole in it. In an attempt to hide some of the problems, someone had unplugged the SES bulb from the dash. The rear spoiler was in three pieces. It was previously owned by a heavy smoker and had many burn marks on all the seats. Looking past all of that I saw a MCSS with a very solid frame and body with none of the normal rusting floors and doors that are common to the Northeast. I paid a whopping $875 for it.
It took me a few weekends to straighten everything out before I registered it. I put on an 87 lay-down style spoiler, replaced the E4ME carb and the leaky heater core. I replaced all of the brakes and put new BFG rubber on it. There are still some minor items to be fixed, like the A/C, cruise control, and rear window defroster, but those are creature comforts that I can do without. I drive it every day regardless of the weather. But isn't that what your supposed to do with a beater car?
