Here is another one of my G-body finds.
This is a 1982 Monte Carlo that my mechanically challenged friend Kurt used
to own. The previous owner had installed a set of MCSS doors with power windows
and power door locks, and a MCSS trunk lid with a stand-up spoiler. It has
a 350 engine and a TH350 tranny. Within the past two years, Kurt paid a lot
of money to several different mechanics to get this Monte the way he
liked it. He had one mechanic put in a 2 1/2 inch aluminized dual exhaust
with a set of Flowmaster mufflers, new exhaust manifolds, and a notched transmission
crossmember for the dual exhaust to clear. He paid another one to install
a new set of Richmond Gear 3.73 gears to replace the 2.41 gears in the stock
posi rear end. He paid another to install a new MSD HEI distributor, Holley
650, and Edelbrock intake. And a different one to install a brand new gas
tank with sending unit and straps.
One day it wouldn't start. Kurt couldn't figure it out so he parked it under
a tree in his fathers yard and it sat there for almost a year. I offered to
take it off his hands but he wouldn't sell it to me. Finally his father told
him to get rid of it, or he'd call the junkyard and have it towed away. Kurt
took off the intake, carb, and distributor and called me up. He said I could
have it for $100. I towed it to my house the next day.
