This is the car that got me started loving El Caminos. I Bought this Elky in 1984 when it had a 229/TH200 drivetrain with 70,000 miles on it.  It soon spun a main bearing, so I jumped at the opportunity to put in a drive train that Chevrolet never would.

I transplanted in an 84 Trans Am 305HO with a Q-jet and a Borg Warner T5 transmission. The whole package came from a recent F-body wreck with only 5,000 miles on it. I dumped the ECM along with the E4ME Q-jet and HEI, and substituted a late 70's Q-jet and HEI.  I then added a set of Hedman headers, with 2 1/2 inch dual exhausts. This car was "a real sleeper".

I drove this 80 Elky for almost 10 years and sold it in 1994 after I purchase my 1979 El Camino SS. The guy who bought this Elky wasn't used to driving a manual transmission. When he picked it up he was grinding the gears trying to find reverse. It was like listening to someone scrape their fingernails across a chalkboard.
